Comments about REI Training Pants - Men's:
I use these pants for running when it's in the 40's to upper 50's degree range. I ride bike more than I run, and what I really like about these pants is the fit and feel: they are not super tight like biking tights, but neither are they baggy. To me they feel just right. A great blend of some elasticity, no binding, and a nice light feel. They probably would be a bit too light for running in the 30's, but I can't say for sure as I haven't had the opportunity to try yet.
I have about a 30-inch inseam with fairly stocky thighs, and I found the large a perfect fit. If you have a 30-inch or less waist, you'd probably be good with a medium, but for my 32-inch waist I found the large just right. Highly recommended for cool (not cold) weather running.
They'd be fine for light hiking too, but not in tight woods and brush: they feel like they'd probably be too prone to tearing. But that's not what I use them for; as running pants, I love them and am going to get a second pair.

Comments about REI Training Pants - Men's:
Overall these are really well made pants; I chose these over North Face and Nike. Comfortable, soft, nice hidden pant leg zipper, nice pocket. However, the elastic in the waist is weak and the drawstring is flimsy. It doesn't appear that you can pull a replacement drawstring all the way through; I think it is sewn in the back. So I say wear them, enjoy them, and when the flimsy drawstring breaks, take them back for a full refund and get another pair for free.

Comments about REI Training Pants - Men's:
The drawstring stinks but it isn't a deal breaker. These pants have a small amount of stretch and aren't too baggy, making them fantastic climbing pants and decent for working out. My version of these have really huge reflective stripes up the back of each leg on the zipper which give me serious style points. REI please use this review. I am 6"2 163lbs and wear 31X34 Levi bootcuts and a medium in these pants fit me perfectly!! Alot of REI clothes are too short for me but these are awesome. (if these are the same as mine)

Comments about REI Training Pants - Men's:
Hoped for versatile workout pants based on previous reviews. These are made from a "noisy" smooth finish synthetic. Fit is true to size but the elasticized waist is loose and the drawstring is cheap and difficult to adjust. Loose elastic plus a drawstring that has to be cinched tight to keep them from falling down is a deal breaker. Far inferior quality to Pearl Izumi, Hind and many other brands.

Comments about REI Training Pants - Men's:
They don't feel cheap or overly athletic in their fit. They aren't baggy around the waist with a elastic waist tightening them in. Stretch just as much as I need and they really look like a high quaility high end pair of pants that can also be used to work out in.

Just purchased. Pretty good pair of pants if your looking for lightweight & thin material. Pants hold up well in the gym/treadmill use.
