Comments about Gregory Deva 70 Pack - Women's:
I am short (<5feet) and a little stout. I took this bag on my first backpacking trips last summer. It is so comfortable that I almost forgot I had it on. I maxed out the load (check the Gregory website, this bag is rated to 50lbs) on a 4 day trek into a S. Colorado Wilderness Area solo, but I didn't feel pain in my shoulders, back or hips. It balances very well and seems pretty sturdy.
The bag itself is pretty heavy on its own, but I am suspicious about the durability of those ultra-light bags. I don't want to baby my backpack when I'm trekking. Pockets are great, all the entry points work fantastic.
What I love, love, love about Gregory - real sizing. None of this 1-size fits all. The sales guy pointed out that the one-size adjustable torso bags relocate the entire bag too high or too low on your torso if you are on the outer edges (I think I'm a 14.5). I bought this in an Xs and then had the torso adjusted (I can do it myself also) to best fit me.
Really comfortable bag. Love the hydration port (bought a platypus 3L - fit fine) but though it has a hook to hang the bag, that probably only works with a 2L or smaller. The 3L, which this says it can handle, is a little long for the pocket, but it still works fine.
All over - WORTH. EVERY. PENNY. Sturdy, extremely comfortable and sized well. If you buy this from REI on-line I still recommend going into a store to have it properly fitted and have someone explain how it should be worn, it really helps!

Comments about Gregory Deva 70 Pack - Women's:
I have come to backpacking as a bit of a middle age crisis- but thanks to the Deva 70- I won't be having a crisis over my pack! My experience in purchasing this can't exemplify enough the need to try on a pack at the store. I walked into REI ready to purchase an Osprey Ariel- until the REI salesperson weighted one up and let me try it on. I almost canceled my trip right then and there. She then suggested the Deva for its superior padding and comfort level. What a difference! I was originally concerned about the weight, but since I am new to the sport and had a lot of other purchases to make, I made a conscious effort to keep the weight down in other areas. I ended up with a 35 pound pack loaded with gear for a week camping trip. I would rather carry 35 lbs. with comfortable padding than try to pare 2 or 3 pounds off the pack and be miserable. Trust me in that fully weighted this pack is a pleasure to wear. One thing to note- this pack has large side pockets. Be sure to use them to their fullest. The weight is distributed much better that way. And be sure to check the shoulder harness. The harness has two adjustments. I initially was training with the strap on the top adjustment and after hiking several miles, I had severe pain in my tailbone area- the pack was simply sitting too low on my back. I adjusted the shoulder harness and ..viola! no pain at all. Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase.

Comments about Gregory Deva 70 Pack - Women's:
Bought this in May 2011 just before I left for a 3 year trek around the world. I've been really nice to her and bought a raincover and storage bag for airport checking. I tried on many packs and this seemed the one for me. I don't use the internal water sleeve for water storage though, I store important documents in ziplock bags there (handy for security and stays dry).
Holds a large amount of gear (I pack it FULL!!) and is still relatively comfortable for extended wear. So far it's held up beautifully and I love it! I like the lumbar support and good padding which is the envy of many of my friends, as well as, the ease of loading the pack. The bright blue color is pretty cute too.
My gripes:
*I'm not a fan of the zippered mesh pockets on the waist belt. I've put small things in there, but it is always too bulky and it's awkward when my arms keep hitting it, so I just choose not to use them.
*Not really sure of the side pockets on the bag itself (like where the water bottles go). One is normal and holds a bottle upright and one is large and sideways, its cumbersome and keeps coming untucked/unvelcroed. Seems too large and shallow to hold a bottle on its side, but what do I know...maybe I'm out of the loop and it's the "new thing". Either way I just ignore it and don't use it.
*Front zip to access pack is kinda pointless. It's so close to the top of the pack and I have to unclip the hood of the bag to access it anyway and the pack is usually packed so tightly it seems silly to struggle with digging. I might as well just enter in through the top because the hood is already unclipped and I can shift things around easier. Just a minor inconvenience, not really a problem.

Comments about Gregory Deva 70 Pack - Women's:
I bought this pack when I got an internship this past summer working in back country locations in Washington state and Virginia. It was an amazing purchase. I originally bought a 60L Osprey, but was told we needed a minimum capacity of 70L. This pack held everything I needed for our 10-day excursions into the back country, and was very comfortable to hike in despite having loaded it to the max. It was expensive, but definitely worth it to have such comfort and space, and be able to adjust it so nicely.

Comments about Gregory Deva 70 Pack - Women's:
Just took my Deva 70 on my first backpacking trip, it was great! I packed a total of 30lbs into it, all the pockets and straps serve a purpose after all! The only issues I found, is that the pockets for the water bladders don't have a hook to hang them, so they start to sag as they become empty. Also, my shoulders are pretty tender from where the straps rubbed, but it might have been a newbie user error in adjusting the bag. Overall, loved it and look forward to taking it on many more trips.

Comments about Gregory Deva 70 Pack - Women's:
This is the best pack I have ever found. The suspension on it is amazing! When you have the pack on you do not feel the weight of your gear. I often times forget if I have my pack on because of that. The pack's hip harness sways as you walk, which makes it a perfect fit for a woman's body. Gregory knows how to make a solid yet comfortable product. I recommend this pack and Gregory as a whole to everyone. You will love this pack from day one.

Comments about Gregory Deva 70 Pack - Women's:
I used Deva 70 (size small) over a three month trip in Europe and West Africa. I nearly kicked myself for spending so much on a pack. Since then, however, my experience with the pack has been worth every penny.
It endured unusual forms of transport, hours spent on my back, "tug-of-wars" during situational times, and diverse weather climates, all while holding fragile items (which did not break!). The pack was practically weightless when adjusted correctly on your pack. The best part about adjusting your pack is that it was easy to reach around and "fix" as you go. I did not have to contend with zipper snags or strap breakage that I have experienced with other brands in the past. The pack can expand to such depth that I haven't seen before.
The only slight problem I have with the pack is the back support( which is the reason why the pack fits so great on one's back). It's bulky when packing into a trunk or on the roof of a car. I would take the amazing back support over having the pack fit perfectly into some trunk so it did not bother me!

Comments about Gregory Deva 70 Pack - Women's:
This is a great backpack! Recommended to me by no fewer than 10 people, I was pretty excited to get on the trail and start using it. As a petite woman (5'3") I like the adjustable torso and shoulder straps (I am a 16). I ordered the XS and was very pleasantly surprised to find that 35+ lbs in this bag was not at all uncomfortable to carry. The bag has a good balance and was very sturdy. I used this bag first for a 4 day+ backpacking trip in northern Montana, so my bag carried mostly food, clothing, and gear.
The other thing I love about the Deva is all the entry and side pockets and extra places to lash gear on. Especially essential for long backpacking trips, the entry and side pockets made grabbing gear very easy and not at all time consuming. I also liked the ability to lash so much gear to the outside without the bag becoming too awkward or unbalanced.
The zippers are sturdy, the bag has a hydration port (which I have yet to use), and a really good water bottle holder (perfect for a Nalgene). There are also velcro straps on either side perfect for strapping on hiking poles, an ice axe, etc.
Despite the higher price, this bag is well worth it, very comfortable and sturdy. I cannot wait to use it again.
