I took this bag on a 3 week trip through Central America and it was awesome! The size of this bag was a perfect balance of holding a lot of gear while being small and easy to store. It was able to fit in the airplane overhead and in bus overhead storage. The included rain cover was nice when I had to strap the bag on top of a car. The quality is also great, the pack showed no visible wear by the end of the trip. It has a good amount of storage and pockets, easily allowing you to organize your gear. I especially like the front access zipper; it makes it easy to get stuff from the bottom of the pack. Also, this bag is comfortable! Whether on a trek through the hot jungle or a day hike in the alpines, this pack stayed comfortable while the mesh back allowed my back to stay cool and dry. My back used to be covered in sweat after a day hike, not anymore, due to the offset mesh that allows wind to get between you and the bag. I could go on... overall this is one of the best packs I have owned.

BTW, I am a 6', 160lb male and the pack fits perfect.

This pack is one of my favorites. The pack fits extremely well and is easy to adjust to others using it. I have taken it out on several longer day hikes and the pack carries a ton of gear. At the same time, it is easy to compress down to a very small size. I was out hiking with it last weekend when my wife and I got dumped on by a heavy rainstorm. No problem, I just pulled out the rain cover and kept packing without anything getting wet.

Although I haven't taken this pack on any overnights, I think it would be a perfect summer pack and you could probably get a few days out of it easy.

If you like to be able to organize your gear, the bag gives you lots of options. Additionally, it is great that you can get in to the pack from the top or from the front.

My only hang up with this pack is the fact that the web straps that compress the bottom part of the pack go over the mesh pockets. It makes these pocket pretty inaccessible unless you want to strap something in to them. If they just sewed a hole in the mesh, you could run the strap behind the pocket and have perfect access plus compression. I am thinking about doing this myself.

Bottomline: The pack is great.

I use this pack for just about everything, and it does it all very well.

Originally purchased for an 8 week trip through Europe. It survived many trains, planes, buses and hostels with hardly any wear and no tear. It has since been on many day hikes and multiple weekend trips. Probably a bit small for extended trips for most people, but its not a problem if you pack light like I do.

The front loading option makes finding clothes a breeze. The lid pocket is perfect for valuables because of the secret underside pocket, as well as quick access items on the very top. I keep my toiletries or other random odds and ends on the front pocket, which is extremely roomy. The bottom pocket is great for soft goods like sleeping bag, pillow, etc. The rain cover is fantastic and takes up almost no room. Even stuffed to the brim the side pockets can fit a nalgene. I also love being able to hang stuff on the outside like some crocs for the campsite.

The fit is pretty great as well. The suspension system is nice, but definitely not designed for a lot of weight. The light weight waist belt doesn't help support heavy loads, but its comfy and enough for what the pack was designed for. I sweat a lot, so the mesh back panel is fantastic! All the padding on the should straps, waist belt, etc are a perfect combination of padding and flexibility. I am 6' and the large was perfect.

If you want a pack for everything from day hikes and up, I highly recommend the z40.

I bought this pack while I was in the market for a daypack but soon realized that it was much more. For a daypack it is quite large, at almost 2600 c.i. (for the large) it can hold a lot of gear, so I would classify it as a two-day pack that can be used for just about anything. I am 6' tall and the large fits my torso perfectly. It's a long pack so you can easily carry long items like tents poles or sleeping mats in the interior of the pack. The suspension system is one of the most comfortable I have ever worn. The internal frame is made of thin spring steel which is very firm but also allows some movement and flexion. The back panel is mesh which increases ventilation and helps curb back perspiration. The hip-belt is just the right size and secures the pack to your body nicely, and the hip-belt pockets are a convenient but a little on the small side. The main compartment is big. For a minimalist it could be a multi-day extended trip backpack. There is a water bladder pocket that accommodates just about any type of bladder. It's a top loader with a snow collar opening and has a barn door on the front. There is a separate sleeping bag compartment that is divided by a zipper which allows for great customization if needed. When you aren't using the sleeping bag compartment the panel can be zipped open and used as a bottom access to the main compartment. On top of the barn door is a large vertical pocket with a zipper opening running vertically through the middle of the pocket. It's a convenient stash pocket that can hold things like snivel gear, snacks, GPS, or any other items that need quick access. There are two side pockets that can accommodate a standard 32oz. nalgene bottle. There are two horizontal compression straps on either side which really help manage any size load. The lower compression straps run across the side pockets which some people don't like, I prefer them there so they can be used to secure a water bottle or some similar item in that pocket. The lid is permanently attached and folds toward the front when accessing the main compartment from the top. The lid has two pockets as well; one on the top and one only accessible when the lid is open. This pack also comes with a built in rain cover which in my opinion makes this a four-season pack. The material is rip-stop which has held up great so far.

All-in-all this pack is a knock out. The comfort is unbelievable and the functionality is better than any other similar pack on the market. If you're looking for a weekend trip backpack that can do just about anything, look no further.

I am a 5'3" woman with short legs but without the shorter torso size that most petite women have, and no pack has ever come close to being as comfortable as this one is (I have it in medium). I regularly use it for several-day trips, nothing longer. I would assume that a normal size person with lots of gear might find this pack a little small, but for something lightweight it can't be beat. I would recommend this to anyone who's a bit on the short size, or looking for something lightweight for a shorter trip.

You can't go wrong w/ the Gregory Z series packs! I have a Z65 and a Z35. They are both over-the-top comfortable, elegantly engineered, and highly ventilated. My next backpack purchase will be a larger capacity Gregory. I'm a big fan!
