Comments about Petzl GRIGRI 2 Belay Device:
This is one of the best top topping devices you can use. It is much smaller and half the weight of the original which makes it easier to use outdoors. I found it is particularly good at ascending because it allows you to stop and hang. It is difficult to feed line out of it in a lead climb as it tends to lock as you pull. Good for beginners, the auto lock gives them more confidence. All in all solid belay. Repelling can be choppy though and it doesn't provide much friction so my hand always got to hot even at slow speeds. It also cannot do any double rope functions so on longer trips it might be better to use a device with more utility.

Comments about Petzl GRIGRI 2 Belay Device:
While I do not regret being an ATC type belay device purist until now, I am most impressed with the fit and function of the Grigri. I bought this for moving into big wall aid climbing and the only small complaint I can think of is that it is hard to keep the Grigri on the carabiner while opening the side plate; something I consider essential for multi-pitch climbing. Not sure how they could improve that though.

Comments about Petzl GRIGRI 2 Belay Device:
The Gri Gri 2 is a wonderful belay device; the changes made to it since the Gri Gri 1 enable this device to work wonderfully when giving slack to the climber. The smaller size makes it easier to hold and control. The Gri Gri 2 catches climbers great on falls and is the slickest and most efficient device on the market; I would highly recommend it to any climber.

Comments about Petzl GRIGRI 2 Belay Device:
I love it. This is a great belay device. It has a little more friction when taking in rope than a atc but the auto blocking makes my partner feel more comfortable when belaying. I haven't tried it out lead climbing yet, but will soon.

I waited really long before I purchased this item. Once I got a chance to use it I really have fallen in love with this climbing must! I wish I would have purchased it when I first started climbing.

Comments about Petzl GRIGRI 2 Belay Device:
I like the GriGri 2 very much and feel safer if I am being belay with one, but for lead belay is a little tricky to use, in my opinion. As much as I may complain of its features, the breaking functions on it work great and I am trying to use it every time I go out now so that I can get more familiar with it. I have noticed the more you use it, the easier it becomes. Taking away a star, just because is kind of bulky, but over all I am happy with it and would recommend it.

Comments about Petzl GRIGRI 2 Belay Device:
I've been an ATC until I die kind of guy, until I got this handy little piece of gear. I love the fact that it catches a falling climbing partner on its own, though it does not mean it is an "I can take my hand of the braking side of the rope and take off my shoes" piece of equipment. I've witnessed this in the gym before, don't do it. This is a 'brainless' belay device but only when used with a brain as a back-up safety device.
It does take some getting used to when feeding rope out on a lead climb but once you start getting the hang of it you should have no problem throwing out enough slack for your partner to clip. Taking on it is really nice, takes a lot of pressure off of your hands when working on a route. You can let your partner hang and read the route without ruining your chances of trying it again.
All in all this piece of equipment is a great addition to any rack and its safety features could save a life, just read some of the Accidents in North American Mountaineering reports. Learn how to use it properly (as with any climbing gear) and the Gri-Gri will never treat you wrong. Smooth, simple and brilliant. I love this thing and you will too. Get one.

Comments about Petzl GRIGRI 2 Belay Device:
I use the grigri2 for guiding and personally. It is a more versatile device than its predecessor with better handling characteristics, both in use as a belay device and a setup tool.
