GRIGRI 2 is 25% smaller and 20% lighter than the original GRIGRI, so it won't slow you down on multipitch climbs when every gram counts; device weighs 185g

I do not own the Grigri 2 yet, but being the owner of a Grigri and having used the new model, I must say it is a step up in every way. The obvious benefits of it being smaller and lighter had me on edge of if I should get a new one just to cut the weight, but ultimately I decided I didn't need it. Then, I got to belay with a friend's brand new Grigri 2, and was I blown away. The feel of the Grigri 2 in the belayer's hand is MUCH nicer than the original Grigri. The new lowering system is really "how it should be." Large sweet spot for much more control with lowering. The biggest seller for me was how well it pays rope out when lead belaying, and I was using a thick gym rope. On the original Grigri, I found that thicker ropes are quite a burden to yank out when lead belaying. Doable, but not even close to perfect. The Grigri 2 has nailed it. I can only imagine ropes pay even better as they get thinner, but my "thick rope" experience was a pleasure. I plan on using my dividend to purchase this and use it for indoor climbing, outdoor sport climbing, and outdoor trad, both single and multipitch. Phenomenal upgrade to an already phenomenal product.

This belay device is awesome! It feeds rope quickly and easily. It also makes taking up slack a breeze. I have a 10.2 rope and it locked immediately and did not have any rope slippage after a lead fall. The cam held the rope in place even when the belayer let go of the rope in his brake hand. Be sure to read the directions, they are very specific on how to feed slack properly and safely.

I bought this device to take my 14 year old cousin climbing. He is a complete novice. I didn't want to worry while on lead with such a young and new climber at the belay controls. It performed beautifully. I happened to take my very first lead fall, a 30 foot wipper. the device caught the fall before my cousin even relized I had fallen. great for peace of mind, worth every penny. easy to use and payed out rope well with a 10'2 rope. very satisfied

this is great especially when my hands are getting tired at the end of a lond hard day of climbing. allows me to relax a bit. also fun to self belay to fix holds at the indoor gym. it takes a little getting used to from a regular atc but once you get used to it it's wonderful.

Very simple to use for lead or top roped climbing and makes for a great backup in case your belayer gets nailed by rockfall or some other act of god. Locks rope off very quickly if the diameter is in the working specifications. Easy and foolproof to use.

I bought the GriGri 2 in order to belay in a safer and more efficient manner. I have used my GriGri 2 many times at indoor climbing gyms and on my climbing trip in Yosemite, California. It as proved to be a valuable piece of equipment. The only thing that isn't so great about this product is the cost.

I've been climbing for a year or so now and I wanted to buy a Black Diamond ATC cause I just wanted something simple to use, but after consulting more experienced climbers I got to the conclusion to buy this device.

I can't say I can be more happy with it... It's been great to climb with this, its super small and light, rope just flows throught it (I have an 9.8mm 70m rope)but when the locking mechanism is needed it works perfectly.

I use this for indoor climbing for myself and daughter. It gets an added measure of security with the autolock over a tube beley device. It is vey simple to use with clear pictorial reminders imprinted on the device. It is simple enough that I can trust my 13 year old to beley me safely.
