Comments about Patagonia Simple Guide Jacket - Men's:
I always wear a jacket (I get cold easily, and I like the extra pockets for my glasses and keys) so the question is which one/what kind, not whether I will wear one at all.
In terms of style my favorite is the classic lightweight "Eisenhower"-style jacket design, which has been around forever (full front zipper, side pockets, sometimes an internal vest pocket, collar).
I used to wear the cotton/polyester Eisenhower jacket versions made by each of those two big (formerly) mail order purveyors of preppy gear, but since companies like Patagonia started making "high tech" versions out of the latest and greatest fabrics (soft shell - smooth windproof front surface with nappy or fuzzy interior) I have switched over to versions from good outdoor clothing companies like Marmot, Patagonia, and Arcteryx.
Of all of them, I like this Simple Guide jacket from Patagonia the best. Unlike many competitors, the Simple Guide jacket uses a little thinner material, which I prefer (Paty also makes the heavier "Guide" jacket as well, if you want a heavier jacket). By being thinner than some others - albeit thicker than the old-fashioned cotton/poly jackets - I can wear this jacket more often even when it warms up, while still having room to add a thin pullover underneath when it is colder. When it gets REALLY cold I switch to a parka, sometimes wearing this Simple Guide underneath the parka in lieu of a sweater (sweaters don't usually have pockets or full front zippers).
Where this jacket especially shines for me is for travel. It is just the right weight for keeping a chill off me on the typical slightly cool airline flight. It has full zip pockets (in the preferred "zip up to close" direction) and also a chest pocket, letting me keep stuff handy; and if there is wind or rain at my destination, no problem!
This year Patagonia went a little crazy on sleeve length. I had the prior version of this jacket, and now this current one, and the sleeves are much LONGER on this new version. Fit is the same otherwise - normal loose, instead of Patagonia tight fitting. The Velcro tabs for adjusting fit at the wrist are stiff and plastic feeling, but that seems to be the design trend these days. I would prefer a softer, floppier cuff adjusting tab, but I guess it would be more prone to losing its shape.
The lining that forms the pockets runs all the way up to the shoulders, so if you want to stuff something really tall in the side pockets (assuming you can squeeze it in the pocket opening) you could. There is no conventional pocket "top" on the inside.

Comments about Patagonia Simple Guide Jacket - Men's:
I think the sleeve length is pretty normal for Patagonia outerwear. Keeps your wrist covered when climbing or reaching above your head. Torso fit does seem roomier than in the past. I can fit a mid weight fleece under the jacket.
Very soft and comfy. Compresses well. Not as wind resistant as stiffer soft shell material.
Tall side pockets, with mesh liner. Normal size zipper openings. You can stuff lots of small things or long skinny things in the pockets. I can fit a 180 CM/100 MM waist climbing skin in each pocket.
More comfortable(roomier and softer) than the Marmot Approach jacket, but not as wind resistant.
