Comments about Mountainsmith Trekker FX Monopod Trekking Pole:
I bought two of these online because they met all of my requirements. They had the Shock absorbers, were light weight, and had a monopod. HOWEVER, my first trip out with them was a traverse. One day 12ish miles.. One broke.. first day out and it broke.. The tip snapped off..
The other one was fine but the wrist strap on both kept coming undone..
Went in-store to replace it with an REI pole. REI pole impressed me far more than these.. Bar-none..

Comments about Mountainsmith Trekker FX Monopod Trekking Pole:
Really nice pole, really great price! Can't understand why anyone would pay 2x-3x the money for a metal stick? 7075 aluminum--look it up, it's good stuff! Plus it has monopod threaded bolt for your camera! The only thing I can think of is the handle is kind of a firm foam, and not rubber, maybe it won't last as long. So what?! I'll get another one.

Comments about Mountainsmith Trekker FX Monopod Trekking Pole:
Just some initial impressions concerning the Mountainsmith trekking poles. Although have not seriously "field tested" them yet, I was initially impressed with their rather light weight and good quality. Whereas they spec out at 14 oz., the four I purchased averaged 11 oz (10.9 to 11.1). Also, they do have shock absorbing capability - a spring is mounted in the upper most section. Lastly, maximum carry capacity for the camera mount is stated at 3 lbs. Including a battery grip and 18-55 zoom lens, my Canon 450D weighs in at 2 lb. 9 oz. and feels quite solid when mounted on the pole. Overall I'm very impressed with the poles and can't wait for some field testing. At [$] per pole, I think they are a very good value.
