Comments about REI Sahara Convertible Pants - Girls':
I am a small female in my early twenties. These were at a great price for some standard outdoor pants to start with. I use them every time I go hiking in the Rockies or camping around Colorado. They look great and have a convenient internal elastic belt to make that fit just right. I've used the zip-off feature once, and it worked just fine. I love all the pockets, except my chapstick tends to fall out of the front top pocket, so I tend to use the velcro pockets more. When trying to stretch to climb a rock, I need to pull the pants up a bit, but no problems with ripping or seams. They are thin (roll up small and light), wonderful in hot weather, and appropriately comfortable to wear layers underneath. The pair also comes with a convenient carabiner. The belt loops are sturdy enough for me to hang my nalgene on for awhile while walking.

Comments about REI Sahara Convertible Pants - Girls':
I bought this on a whim since it was on sale and needed a pair to protect my legs from cacti and whatnot for my a strenuous rock scramble to Goat Canyon. I am petite so it fit me perfectly, except when I had to lift my legs up high to climb over boulders. The fit and cut forced me to hitch/pull the pants up before I could get lift my leg really high. Yes, I do realize these are meant for girls. I loved the pockets! 2 front/back + 2 side. A carabiner comes with each pair and there are plenty of belt loops. The convertible zippers were difficult to deal with (stuck a lot during taking off and putting on). The UV protection is a great bonus as I hate to hike with a thick layer of sunscreen all over my body. Material is really thin. A pinprick hole has already formed on my bum after this one brief scramble (plus it was mostly going up, not down). To compare, I have a pair of NF shorts that I did the wonderland of rocks scramble in (mostly down hill) and they didn't get any pinpricks, holes, etc in them. If based on value (I got it on sale for [$]), I'd rate it a 5. But if you had to pay full price for this, I would only recommend them for light hiking/daily use. Not scrambling. The fabric isn't durable enough. For serious hikers and scramblers just go with a higher end woman's convertible. It's worth the money because it's better quality. To end this review, because they were [$] each I bought 2 pairs just to wear around town, etc. [$] is a great deal! Just don't let other people see the colored zipper lining... it's baby blue and baby pink..................
