Comments about Osprey Talon 44 Pack:
This pack has been the best all around pack for me. I've trail run down to Havasupai with 40# in it without the suspension feeling overloaded, and still allowing me to run without feeling locked up.
I'm a PT and a biomechanics nut and up until the Talon 44 hadn't found anything that allowed me to run well.
The suspension, at first, looks insufficient to hold heavier loads, but has been better than anything I've found. It is the vertical stays that make it work so well. Osprey, for some INSANE reason, took the vertical stays out of their 22 and 33 models for this pack, and I'd have to say they are total junk unless you overload them so they are heavy enough to stay in place, and even then why take more than you need? Otherwise the bottom rides up off of your hips while running with lighter loads that the 22 should be designed for.

Comments about Osprey Talon 44 Pack:
I used this pack for my whole AT thru hike this year. It was comfortable, lightweight, and obviously durable. I'm hard on my gear, and it held up to 2200 miles. I noticed that Osprey packs were the most popular packs by the end of the Appalachian Trail. Most thru hikers had either worn them the whole time or switched to them, which says a lot about their overall qualities.

Comments about Osprey Talon 44 Pack:
I have owned many packs over the years from a lot of different manufacturers and Osprey packs are the best in my opinion. I especially like the Talon 44. It is best for loads of less than 30 lbs and most comfortable around the 20 lb range. If you've trimmed your overall pack weight then this pack provides a great balance of lighter weight with a comfortable suspension and still the features of multiple pockets, adjustments, etc. Great pack!!

Comments about Osprey Talon 44 Pack:
This is a really nice pack from Osprey. I have tried the Hornet 46 and the Exos 46, and for some reason this pack hit the 'sweet-spot' of comfort with about a 14 - 22 lb load that I will be carrying, ( including food and water ). It seems to hold more gear in it than either the above packs as well. I'm not sure why that is, because the specs show it as being smaller. The top lid will hold alot of stuff that you need for quick access. My only 'quibble' with this pack to keep it from a 5 star rating is the oversized and abundant use of straps that could be pared down in size. I still say if Osprey could pair this suspension with the simplicity of the Hornet, they would have a 5 + pack!

Comments about Osprey Talon 44 Pack:
I got this pack because it was a pound lighter than the Kestrel 48 I'm using. After putting about 20 pounds of gear into it, I found out why: they minimized the suspension. This pack was not comfortable at 22 pounds (20 gear + 2 pack, give or take half a pound.) This pack is to the Kestrel what the Exos is to the Atmos: a well-designed, nicely featured lightweight alternative, but best used those who can keep their heaviest loads below 20 pounds. (Caveat: At 61, my upper body strength is not what it was at 30; this may have some bearing on the comfort issue.)
The pack is very well designed, other than the suspension. It has a roomy lid, roomy main compartment, and nicely sized side, hipbelt, and shove-it pockets. It packs well, and easily adjusted to the proper torso length. The bladder compartment is also nice; a 2-liter Osprey Hydraform fits into it perfectly, and the stiff sheet and plastic frame arm actually help stiffen the framesheet a bit.
The shoulder straps are straight, not recurved, and I found they rubbed my neck a bit. Also, the padding on the hipbelt and shoulder straps is not ver stiff at all.
For a true ultralight hiker, this pack is probably a good choice. It just didn't work out well for me.

Comments about Osprey Talon 44 Pack:
Used this bag for the JMT in August 2011, worked perfect. Spent 13 days on the trail, with 7 of them between Muir Ranch and Whitney Portal.
The bag was slightly overloaded on my first day out of Muir Ranch but even then it was still comfortable. The rest of the trip it was a perfect fit.
Very easy to adjust, and easy to pack. The external pocket put up with a little abuse when I had to stuff propane bottles and a Jetboil into it to save space.
Was able to fit the extended size carbon fiber bear canister in the bag along with a trekking pole tent and some clothes and supplies.
Couldn't be happier with this bag. It was awesome!

Comments about Osprey Talon 44 Pack:
This pack is amazing. This is the third pack I have bought (the first was a REI Mars 80, the second a Flash 55) and is easily the most comfortable. Fully loaded it weighed around 55 pounds, but I never really felt it. I cinched it around my waist pretty tightly, and after a 6 mile hike up to the peak and back my shoulders didn't hurt at all. There are plenty of clips and straps to attach things to the outside, and a bottom zipper to get to those hard to reach items without unloading your entire pack.
My only complaint is the space for the water reservoir is cramped when you have a full pack. I wish there was some sort of frame to keep your pack from compressing the compartment.
I gave it 5 stars, just because I think it is great, but I wish there was a way to give it 4.75 stars.

Comments about Osprey Talon 44 Pack:
I'm a student of Adventure Education and spend time climbing, hiking, playing the harmonica and going to classes. This pack allows me to do all those things with ease and not a lot of fuss. while in school my rock gear is in the bottom of my bag with my hiking shoes and my school books are at the top and because of the bottom zipper i can easily get some hiking or buldering in between class. I spent the summer on a trail crew hauling tools so yes it's durable, unbelievably comfortable, easy to adjust, and ways nothing.
This is my second Osprey bag and I am excited for my third.

Comments about Osprey Talon 44 Pack:
I use this for 2-4 night backpacking trips. Nights at 15-40 degrees, to give an idea. Most of my gear is relativily minimal (neo air, alcohol stove, tarp, etc) so I do not carry heavy loads. But, I have managed 27lbs in this pack without issue, and it performed flawlessly. It is one of the lightest packs on the market with a TRUE FRAME. It is also fully adjustable. That combination sold me, plus Osprey's own "all mighty guarantee"... In fact, I believe you'd be challenged to find anything similar (with those three criteria) on the market. I would make a couple minor improvements, however: overly complicated straps, weird graphics, and poor color choices (white material on the bottom?) prevent it from getting a higher rating from me. Otherwise, no complaints!

Comments about Osprey Talon 44 Pack:
This backpack is amazing. It's incredibly lightweight, easy to pack, VEERRRYYY comfortable! I have only used it twice on short 2-3 overnight trips, and it has been great! Fits everything I need. It is relatively small, so depending on your style of backpacking, you may want something a little larger. But for my minimalist approach it is perfect! The only con is the straps and adjustments are a little tricky, and there is a lot of excess straps. However, I am pretty small in the frame, so maybe it is just too big on me. There are a ton of helpful videos on youtube about how to adjust and pack it! Check those out definitely. It was a gift, and I am incredibly happy with it. Even though I haven't used it much, I am confident enough with it to take it on a 2 week excursion in New Zealand! Happy Tramping!
