Comments about Gordini Midweight Zip-T Shirt - Men's - Special Buy:
I started buying these Gordini shirts from REI about 4 years ago. I'm generally a tad tall/big for a men's medium but too small for a large, but the medium in this garment fits me almost perfectly--sometimes. And the fabric and generally quality is great: warm and breathable without bulk. But I've had several issues over the years.
First of all, what REI calls "charcoal" has never been charcoal. The first year I bought that color, the charcoal had a blue/green tint. Not what I wanted but acceptable. The second year, the color had a brown tint--closer to a dark tan than gray amd really heinous IMO. This year, the "charcoal" is what I'd call a medium heather gray. I haven't tried the "charcoal gray," but it looks like a non-heather medium gray. Talk about confusing.
The real issue, however, is the inconsistent fit, and particularly the oversized neck. I always have ordered a medium, but the overall size has varied from slightly roomy and too long to nice and snug but a little too short. The garment measurement of the neck circumference (unstretched) has varied from 17.5" to 20.5" over the years. Men's mediums are supposed to fit a 15.5" neck. 17.5" is less than snug but acceptable. 19" and up is just absurd. It's like an X-large neck on a medium shirt.
And yes, I've actually measured. This is because I find it so frustrating that a shirt with so much potential and an affordable price has a major design and/or manufacturing flaw that should/could be easily rectified. I've written both Gordini and REI about the issue without luck. All I can say is that the better-fitting shirts seem to be made in Vietnam and the worse ones in China. But there's no way to specify, and all of the ones I've received recently have been made in China. The necks are consistently too baggy now. When they're unzipped, they're fine, but when zipped, the zipper hangs unacceptably far away from the neck. Occasionally I'll get one that's marginally acceptable and keep it because I like the other aspects of the shirt.

This shirt smells like rotten garbage, even after about 8 washings.

Worn this top for the first time on a snowy mountain bike ride. I'll keep this breif, but check out my review of the same model bottoms.
Good moisture management, good thermal regulation. Sleeves are a little short, but OK. Hem is definately short. Bought based on sizing chart and for next to skin layer its pretty close. Just a little short.
These show a lot of promise as a base layer for cycling at a fraction of the cost that similar products run.
