This street-smart jacket is perfect for travels where you need wet-weather protection. The REI Madrona plus-size jacket is fully seam sealed and provides wind protection up to 60 mph.

Waterproof and breathable, the Madrona jacket offers 2-layer protection from the elements; brushed tricot/taffeta lining is soft and warm and slides easily over clothing

As a plus sized girl living in Seattle, one must have a good durable rain coat. I picked up the REI Madrona Jacket last summer and after almost 18 months, I still love this jacket. It's light weight, repels water and is stylish too. As others have mentioned, the jacket is a dark charcoal rather than black. The jacket is very true to size and fit well for a larger bust line. My daughter was in Seattle last Christmas from Texas and she used the jacket while she was here and loved it! I think the only request I have is to develop the same jacket yet offering a shorter version. I love the length however, I would like a shorter version too.

Style: Gorgeous jacket! Stylish and smart-looking with a casual feel (country club casual, maybe?).
Fit: slightly fitted, with tailored feel but still roomy enough for a sweater or something underneath, without looking bulky. I am very petite and this did not overwhelm my short frame.
color: The black is actually a dark grayish/charcoal color-very pretty. The pattern is very attractive. This jacket will never go out of style.
Utility: Well made, feels sturdy. Great wind/rain protection features. Removable hood- plenty of zippered pockets- inside and out-This is important because my family thinks of me as their own personal Sherpa or pack mule.
I tried this on, at the store, while shopping for a jacket to take on the land portion of a land & sea Alaska cruise vacation. I didn't buy this jacket ONLY because I absolutely have to pack very light. This jacket is just slightly too bulky to stuff into a backpack with all the other things I have to take. I think I'm going to go back and purchase it anyway so I can use this at home and for future travel when packing space is not such a critical issue.

I bought this jacket a couple months ago and it has quickly become my favorite spring jacket. It blocks the wind and water rolls right off, and keeps you warm without that clammy feeling. The inside lining is very soft without being bulky. The sleeves are a perfect length for me, and I like the adjustable cuffs. I agree with the other reviewer who said the design is "timeless". Often jackets that are really comfortable, durable, and wind & waterproof are too casual and sporty for weekday use, but this jacket translates from commuting downtown to more casual weekend locations.

As a mom of school-age boys, my days are spent in and out of the car and my weekends are spent on the sidelines of the baseball or soccer field. I needed a rain coat that would keep me dry and warm in wet, cold and windy Portland, but not be so bulky that I'd be uncomfortable in the car. I have been surprisingly pleased with this jacket. The hood feels bulky on the back of my neck, but it won't stop raining so I can't take it off! I wish the pockets were bit deeper, so gloves were nice and safe, but I like the adjustable cuffs and the rain just beads up and rolls off! There are a few hidden pockets inside, which I've not used. The styling is great - not too dressy, not too sporty. It's a nice charcoal gray that can pass for black, but has a softer look. Here in the PNW, I can wear it to a game on Saturday and church on Sunday.
