Comments about REI Madrona Jacket - Women's:
Perfect jacket for traveling. Hood is large enough to cover the whole head. Zipped side pockets and one rare pocket are extremely useful and secure.

Chest was a bit tight so I returned it for the next size. Great jacket! Keeps me warm and dry without bulk and is stylish

Comments about REI Madrona Jacket - Women's:
CONS: Though this is a women's jacket, it is not tailored for a typical woman...someone with either a butt or hips. I typically struggle to find a jacket that fits in the chest area (and am forced up a size as a result), but this is perfect in the chest but tight in the hips...very strange...my measurements are nearly the same for each area. And, it would have been smart to install a two-way zipper...especially since it's a tight fit in the hip area...then I could adjust accordingly.
PROS: Other than those two points, I love the jacket...it's perfect for weather straddling "down parka" temps and full-blown spring...just when you're tired of bundling up before heading outside. I wear a long-sleeved flannel shirt or thin jacket in addition to this coat when it's still below freezing, and I stay very cozy. It's waterproof and breathable while ALSO not making me feel uncomfortable when working up a sweat (lining inside jacket is very nice compared to other waterproof models where skin sticks and condensation just seems to collect inside the jacket...you know the kind). I hiked in it this past weekend and couldn't have been more pleased...just unzipped when got too warm, then zipped back up to get warm again.

Keeps me snug and dry on bi-polar Texas weather days standing duty outside for up to 45 minutes even in a constant rain.

Comments about REI Madrona Jacket - Women's:
Read other positive reviews of this jacket and have to agree with the quality. Fits well except for seeming a bit snug across the chest. Lots of pockets in the right places. Works great both out on the trails or around town. I've been caught in rain and it's kept me dry except for right around the cuffs where it seemed to soak up a bit of water. Is a great outer layer over a fleece for snowshoeing, too. Purchased it during a half-off promo, so can't complain about the price.

Comments about REI Madrona Jacket - Women's:
Really good looking coat with nice features including zip off hood. But sleeves are too tight to wear over a sweater. I bought this for a nice winter coat instead of wearing a ski coat to work, but you cannot wear your winter clothes under it. I usually wear medium, and everything but the tight sleeves was fine.

Comments about REI Madrona Jacket - Women's:
I loved the jacket, but ultimately returned it, because while the jacket itself looked great and stylish, the hood was basically unwearable.
It's not adjustable and hung down to my nose, looking stupid and making it impossible to see to the sides.
My husband bought the men's version, and that one has the hood adjustment.
I have to admit to feeling quite annoyed that this was left out for the women's style.

Comments about REI Madrona Jacket - Women's:
This is a very versatile cool weather jacket. You're probably going to want something heftier in below freezing temps, but I've managed to layer this up and feel reasonably comfortable in temps near freezing. The fact that it's windproof does a lot for its comfort factor and it's definitely holds up in the waterproof department. It also has a nice streamlined cut and muted colors, so it's really well suited for travel. It's probably is not the best for hiking, but could do in a pinch. I've had compliments on the jacket, and was looking to buy a more insulated one, but I think I won't need to for DC winters. The only complaint I have is that the hood is slightly too deep for my head, and it flops over my head, obscuring my vision. Also, wanted to note that I'm typically a medium petite, but purchased this in an S. I suggested trying it on for fit if you can, as the chest area is cut a smidge tight. I ended up sizing down because of sleeve length, but do not wear bulky layers underneath so was able to do so.
