Comments about Blundstone 500 Boots - Men's:
Sorry, friends, these are not the iconic Aussie Blunny. Blundstone sold out several years ago and the current version is made in China. Poorly made. I am bummed because I had a pair of the original Blundstone 500's that kept my feet dry and happy through snow and mud and city streets for a dozen years. That was then. This is now. I feel for the guy in the wheel chair that had to order 3 three times to get 2 boots that matched. It's a sad thing, mate, but real Blundstones are gone forever. Myself, I'm buying American and wearing Redwings these days.

Comments about Blundstone 500 Boots - Men's:
I normally do not write reviews, but often read them. I feel compelled to write this one due to so many issues. I use a wheelchair and often have to order online because it is hard to simply go places. [...] I had to order yet another replacement Blundstone boot today (size 10.5) due to poor quality control (the 3rd pair of the same size online). Each of the boots I've ordered had problems significant enough to warrant ordering a replacement. 1st pair: the right was tighter than the left. 2nd pair: the toe cap was crooked on the right which caused it to break in an awkward spot on your foot and become uncomfortable. 3rd pair: had to order today and who knows what is next? Usually the REI quality is very good; however, with these expensive casual boots ([$]), I would not expect this to happen. REI should look into this. Actually, for "trying on", the pair I just ordered would become the 4th pair of boots of the same size. [...]. These boots claim to be Australian but with the global market, they are really a fairly cheaply made product stamped with a quality name. With all that said, the boot IS comfortable and I'm still trying to find one that fits; however, it is very odd for a product carried by REI. The reason why a person in a wheelchair would be buying this boot is the same reasons why most people would. The unlined leather will allow the foot to breathe well and is pretty flexible. The boot is very light and has a nice feel to them. Honestly, I wish I had a pair when I worked construction for many years. I now hope that I can find a pair that simply fits. NOTE: If you have a wider width foot, you will need the "half" size. The "whole" sizes are exactly the same length as the "half" sizes; the only difference between the two (according to the Blundstone website official shoe sizing printout) is that there is extra "girth". Basically, if you want to use a good quality sock (like the Wigwam Comfort Hiker), go with the "half" size. When you combine the boot and the sock, it feels like an awesome slipper you can wear outside! Due to overall comfort (and they do not have laces) my efforts to find a pair that fits continues! I fully expect that they will be great once a properly made pair arrives into my hands. If Blundstone could make them fit consistently, I would have rated them with five stars! If I get a pair that fits, I'll update the review.

If you want a wide elastic sided boot like this that is made of better leather and that will last much longer, try the Stockyard boot from R.M. Williams - they are heaps better.

I bought these a month or so before a RTW trip. I was sure they would break in with time. They never did, and I ended up giving them away in Vietnam. That was a good day, the first of many without those painful Blundstone boots.

Comments about Blundstone 500 Boots - Men's:
These are my first pair of "casual" boots and needless to say, I am IMPRESSED! They look great with jeans or just out walking the dog, and they are very water-resistant and durable. I've had mine one season and I don't regret the purchase one bit. I have wide feet and the boot has stretched to accomodate my foot, and they're very comfortable to wear around town or running errands.

These are just your most basic leather coverings for the feet. Everyone in Australia wears them, I picked up my pair in Brisbane about 10 years ago for about 40 bucks. I like them for motorcycle riding and easy slip-ons for trips outside the tent at night.
The elastic goes first, then finally the glue attaching the leather to the sole. Which means I suppose the leather is pretty high quality. I replaced mine with redbacks but I miss my blunnies!

My wife gave these to me for Christmas about 4 years ago. I wore them all day that Christmas, and they felt like I had worn them for years. A few weeks later, we decided on a whim to go hike Ravens Cliff Falls. They were incredibly comfortable even on the short hike. I've worn them to the office, out on the town, running errands, working in the yard, on the construction site, etc. These are even great for traveling, since they're easy to slip off and on at airport security. I'm looking forward to buying my next pair, but just can't wear out the first.

I have had these boots for 12 years. They look and feel better with every step. Made in Australia as a work boot, I have thrown mine through a ton of conditions that otherwise would have ruined a similar boot. Hiking, biking, long treks, line kitchen environments, yard work with gravel and cement as well as the rain and snow we get in WI. And they have stood up beautifully. Best footwear I have every purchased.
The break-in time is similar to most boots. The more you wear them, the better they get.
