Comments about REI Revelcloud Vest - Men's:
A few years ago, ultralight junky websites and forums were extolling the virtues of Pertex Quantum (as a miracle fabric) and Primaloft (as the best synthetic fill). And now here we are with REI offering these two materials, together, in a start of the art designed vest at a bargain (relative) price.REI used to be content to be good, not great, focusing on "value," but with this item they have surpassed themselves.Plus they have resisted their urge to splash their little square logo on the product as a sewn on rubber patch with contrasting (white) color to broadcast to the world that you chose REI instead of Patagonia. Instead the patch is there, but as really subtle, classy embroidery. Was the usual designer secretly replaced? Did the usual designer sneak this subtlety past the REI advertising dept.?Well, buy this before it fades into history or gets replaced by something less stylish, functional, and technical. Buy it before REI reverts to a bolder brand tag, buy it before they replace Pertex Quantum with no-name, before the Primaloft gets replaced with generic fill that isn't silicone impregnated to shed water and dry faster. This vest actually beats Patagonia at their own game.Did I mention that the "loudest" design elements on my black edition are the use of dark gray fabric instead of black on the zipper slots?BTW even the free included stuff sack is apparently made of Quantum. No crummy after thought stuff sack here.Uses: you either know when a vest is preferable to a full jacket or pullover, or you don't. But if you have been using a fleece vest instead of a synthetic fill vest like this, consider the advantages of Pertex and Primaloft: this thing weighs only 9.5 ounces in men's medium, but unlike a fleece vest it will block the wind, shed the rain, and pack or stuff down small. Blocking the wind is HUGE. The full zip and modest insulation thickness means you can control your temperature, and won't look like a puffed up blowfish. The sole disadvantage of this compared to fleece is drying time. It is MUCH harder for water to get in and soak the filling, but conversely takes a lot more time to get out if it happens. That having been said, I can't see this thing soaking through (assuming you monitor and retreat the water repellent ever few years or so) unless you fall into a river and are held down by a grizzly.I fold mine flat and stuff it in my shoulder bag's laptop slot. I don't use it often on a flight, but it can mean the difference between cozy comfort and utter misery on the occasional over-air conditioned flight.

It is nice product to wear alone on mild days and a great piece to pack when you may need an extra layer for warmth. It works perfect with a fleece layer and under a shell for skiing and packs very small into the included stuff sack when you don't need it. The only negative is the stitching along the front seems to be wearing prematurely. It is not a functional issue, just aesthetic. Overall a good product

Comments about REI Revelcloud Vest - Men's:
This vest is apparently marketed under snowsports but i've gotten the most use out of it on the bike. It's great to have something warm and windproof for the chilly morning ride to work, but it stuffs away really small for the warm ride home. It layers ridiculously well under a wind/rain shell or even something heavier like a softshell. I've also been very happy using it as an outer layer as it does indeed block wind well. The zipper works smoothly and is easy to adjust while riding. Although i got the vest after snow season, i'm looking forward to using it snowboarding next winter! I'm also planning to bring it on a future bike tour since it's so versatile.
I thought i wanted an orange one for better visibility, but got black instead and am really happy because i wear it off the bike a lot. I normally don't like the shiny harshness of black jackets but it's kind of a matte finish, making it more subdued. Very nice looking.
I'm normally a medium but i never can be sure with REI's stuff so i tried these vests on carefully before buying. I settled on a Small, to ensure it fit close and layered well. Because it does so well as a midlayer i strongly suggest trying one on to get the fit right for you.

I love it.
It works great, surprisingly warm.
I was skeptical due to how light weight and thin it is, but it works.
Though, I never received the stuff sack with mine, I didn't even know it was to have one, it wasn't attached at the store.
That will be my only con.
Other than that i Plan on testing it on an upcoming rafting trip to see how it really performs when wet.

Comments about REI Revelcloud Vest - Men's:
This is one of my favorite REI purchases. I was looking for a vest that was slim, yet retained heat. I have a down vest that is super warm, but also pretty bulky and therefore hard to layer. This vest is hardly noticeable under shells and allows for full mobility. I love to wear it over a mid layer hoodie, during weather that's not too hot yet not too cold. It's super lightweight and can compress into the included stuff sack or just shoved into a corner in your pack.

Comments about REI Revelcloud Vest - Men's:
I have recommended this vest to about 25 people so far. What impresses me the most is this vest's versatility. It's just fine in slightly cool weather, and still remarkably warm in cold weather, despite it's incredibly light weight. I take this everywhere I go and it has came in so handy on hikes where I didn't think I'd need it. I'm thinking about ordering a spare since every time something comes out that is this nice it gets discontinued. Murphy's law, I guess. :)

Love this thing. Bought a puffier, warmer REI vest at the same time, but this little baby has been more than enough for most days. Love the color too.

Comments about REI Revelcloud Vest - Men's:
I like this vest because it's thin enough to fit easily under a jacket but also warm enough that I can use it over a long sleeve shirt in fall or spring. I've used it almost daily during December and January in temps. ranging from 3 to 23º C. and even on windy days it's been warm enough at 3ºC to keep my chest and lower back warm. The only improvements I can think of would be a less glossy, or satiny, finish and an inner pocket. However, all three pockets have good zippers and are large enough for my needs.

I walk everywhere I go. This vest goes over a fleece on cold mornings, by itself on sunny days and under a rain coat on windy/rainy days. It's incredibly warm. The fit was strange at first over my shoulders as I wasn't used to wearing clothes made of sleeping bag material. It is incredibly warm which was the deciding factor for me instead of returning it. For me, this is a great vest for low to medium activity levels. For intense or high activity, it will roast you out. It's a super nice compliment to the gear I already have and I'm glad I purchased it.

Comments about REI Revelcloud Vest - Men's:
I went camping recently and packed this vest along. It ended up saving me. First of all, it packed down super small and light so it wasn't a hassle at all to bring it along. It started pouring the first night of the trip. Our tent had several leaks so the inside of it ended up soaked. I was wearing this vest and it was absolutely amazing. It kept me warm, even when it was soaked from the downpour. If I hadn't had this vest, I would have been freezing.
