The Ortovox 3+ avalanche transceiver not only delivers excellent search capabilities but also features an innovative function designed to make it easier for rescuers to find victims wearing the 3+.

3+ has the ability to analyze its vertical orientation when buried and transmit its signal on the transmitting antenna best positioned for searchers to pick up a signal
Triple antenna design allows excellent precision and pinpoint search capabilities no matter what position the victim is buried in
Upon reaching a victim, the searcher can press the single button to mark the found victim and immediately set out for other snow burials by simply following the visual data
Marking a victim forces the transceiver to stop receiving the marked signal and focus on the next strongest signal
LCD screen features a circular display with a directional arrow and distance readout to guide you to the victim
Pinpoint search features semicircles around the edge of the screen that indicate whether you are getting closer to or farther away from the signal

This thing is amazing, It has smooth flagging for multi burials. It only uses one battery, and has a smart antenna system that allows you to be found more easily. I have had other brands and they don't compare to this one.

Out of the box a complete novice can interpret and understand the sounds and images displayed. There are multiple visual cues to aid in the "Fine" search. It is remarkably well made, is digital and has a back light. It indicates how many victims by a human icon up to three victims,(and a 4+ when there are more than 3), then when you find that victim and flag it the icon changes color so you know that one is flagged. It will temporarily forget about the flagged victim and head you towards the next until it is then flagged. In addition if I'm the one buried this thing has their "Smart" technology that sends out the best readable signal no matter what position I'm buried in. Don't mess with any of the other dinosaurs out there, this is the one you want for the right price.

Between my member discount and dividend, it came to [$] out of pocket which still seems a princely sum for what you actually get. Radio signal direction finding tech is older than my grandma, and though the latest models do have some clever digital signal processing integrated, it can't be that expensive to develop and produce.
