Comments about Novara Carema Pro Women's Bike - 2011:
I purchased the Carema Pro to race my first criterium as the bike I had planned on using had developed some expensive mechanical problems at the last minute, and I did not have the time to have it repaired. Considering that my race was in 2 days, I searched for a reasonably priced road bike that I could pick up fast, and race the next day. After looking at many road bikes that one day, I came upon the Carema and Carema Pro. I have to admit the Pro model was on clearance, which caught my eye, but what impressed me the most was that it was stock with Shimano 105 components, decent wheels and tires, and when I test rode the bike it handled beautifully (especially sharp cornering) and was very quick to respond. When compared to other bikes in the same price range, such as Scott, Trek and Giant, the components on the Carema Pro were much better for the same price, and since REI has a generous return policy, I decided that if the bike didn't perform well I could always return it or exchange for another model. After my races, I fell in love with this bike, as it rode beautiful and smooth, cornered great, and was pretty fast. Although not the fastest or lightest, it was more than adequate for my beginner skill level in racing. I decided to keep the bike due to this and have been racing and touring in it and have enjoyed it. The bike can be outfitted with racks for panniers as there are front and rear eyelets, making this bike very versatile- I can race one day, put a rack on it and go touring the next. One word of warning- the top bar on this bike is kind of strange as it actually curves and rises in the middle, making the stand-over height a bit taller than if it was a straight bar. Not sure why this is. I just clear the stand-over in that spot, but since I like the fit of the medium frame, and my cleats make me about and inch or two taller, the bike fits just fine. I would suggest anyone shorter than 5'6" choose the small or extra small, as the medium is sized for 5'6" and above, but due to that top bar, you should try it with your cleats or cycling shoes on. I am exactly 5'6" but with cleats, closer to 5'8", which is why the bike is fine for me. Overall, I think I may replace the saddle as it really isn't the most comfortable for touring but fine for racing or training, but other than that, the bike rides nice, shifts smoothly, and it was a bargain on clearance and even moreso with my 20% off member's coupon. I would even consider this bike at full price, due to the components as compared to other bikes at the same price.

Comments about Novara Carema Pro Women's Bike - 2011:
This is actually a great bike. The only two complaints I have are the gear shifting is a little slow and very loud and the handlebars could be a bit better (I find the shape/geometry leaves something to be desired; the tape on the handlebars is great though). I switched out the seat when I got the bike, so I don't have much to say there. Otherwise this bike is pretty fast, good for long rides (I do 60 miles at least once a week), commutes etc. It handles really well, the brakes are great (I live in Seattle so there is a lot of downhill braking) and wet conditions it works alright compared with other bikes I've ridden.

Comments about Novara Carema Pro Women's Bike - 2011:
I bought the 2010 model a week before the Clean Air Challenge in mid-May and it made this 120-mile ride so much easier, nicer and faster. I had ridden it the past two years on a mountain bike. With this ride complete, it was time to start training for the MS-150 in mid-September.
After putting 1,100 miles on this bike in four months, I can honestly say I LOVE this bike. It is comfortable (except for the seat...why do they even come with a seat?). The bike also handles well and I haven no complaints at all. Also, the components are great for the price of this bike.
The bike arrived at the store within a week and it was quickly assembled and fitted. REI supports both the bike rides I rode and do an awesome job with any adjustments needed and additional repairs along the way. With the week of riding before the ride and the 120-miles in the ride, I was able to get the initial break-in adjustments taken care of.
I was worried that I would quickly out-grow this bike, wanting to take it up a notch. Frankly, I'm very pleased with this bike and would highly recommend it. Completely satisfied....and can't wait to get back on it!
