Comments about Salomon Quest 4D GTX Hiking Boots - Women's:
How ironic that my "quest" for a great fitting boot would lead me to the Salomon Quest. After reading all of the reviews, I originally purchased the Asolo Stynger. Nice shoe- but too narrow. I continued to try every Asolo women's brand out there, only to resign that the Asolo lasts are evidently not made for my foot. As a last resort, I ordered the Salomon from on line. (Shame on you REI for not having this available in your store to try on.) One slip onto my foot and honestly, I heard angels singing. It has more padding than the Stynger so it may feel a little stiff at first, but it breaks in really well and in no time- A few hikes at the local metropark and my shoes are ready for my 10 day backpacking hike in Canada. Asolo Stynger fans- be wary- the Stynger shoe is only rated for backpacking with less than 30 pounds (got that from emailing the manufacturer). Although some feet can handle that- my middle age dogs demand more comfort and support. The Quest is rated for backpacking loads of 40 lbs. So if you are looking for a padded, supportive backpacking boot- you can't go wrong with the Quest!!

Comments about Salomon Quest 4D GTX Hiking Boots - Women's:
I have searched high and low for a pair of boots that would be comfortable on my wide feet. Awhile ago I purchased Merrel Siren Sports but quickly found out that they were the wrong fit for me---far too narrow---my feet felt like they had been in a vice grip when I took them off after a hike. I decided to try my luck on these Salomon boots and order online since I had never seen them in store. I ordered my regular size, 8.5, even though I normally buy a half to full size larger (9 or 9.5) for athletic shoes. The boots fit me perfectly! I've worn them for two full day hikes in the Appalachians and didn't need any moleskin. What makes the fit so nice is that you have ample room in the toe but the heel is still well fitted--no sliding up and down. They provide good traction in mud and kept by my feet dry in the recent snow. REI should carry these in store so more people can give them a try. Overall--great multi-purpose boot.

Comments about Salomon Quest 4D GTX Hiking Boots - Women's:
Salomon boots feel like they are made just for me! I used to have an old pair of Salomon low-cut hikers that I loved and completely wore out. Last year, I bought a pair of Salomon GTX trail runners that are also amazingly comfortable- I wear them daily around town and also on light hikes. This year, I wanted a pair of more sturdy hikers, but couldn't find this pair in the REI store, so I ended up settling on a pair of Vasques. They were terrible and hopeless to break in- pain, blisters, and all-around discomfort. I have wide feet and my little toes were in constant terrible pain/pressure in the Vasques. I gave up and recently replaced them with this pair of Salomons and they are fantastic! Comfortable, sturdy, and great ankle support.
I broke these shoes in last weekend up in Rocky Mountain National Park. Over 23 miles and not one piece of Moleskin- I would say that's complete boot success!!!

Comments about Salomon Quest 4D GTX Hiking Boots - Women's:
I got these for a 5 day backpacking trip in Yosemite this summer and they were great! They required no break in, were super comfortable from the moment I put them on, they have more cushioning than any other hiking boot I've ever had but yet are still stiff enough to be supportive while carrying 40 lbs and going up and down steep inclines. I have high arches and had plenty of support. As with any ankle boot, the laces required adjusting depending on uphill or downhills, but lacing is easy and laces "snap" into the hooks. Only downside is hooks are made of plastic, so maybe not as durable as metal. The waterproofing was great, I wadded through streams and some snow and my feet stayed dry, tese will double as good winter boots here in Chicago! Highly recommended! I will be buying other Salomon shoes from now on.

This is a great boot! I had my previous boots for 4 years and it was time to change them out. I tried on a few different boots and these boots fit perfectly and were from day one super comfortable. These have much more cushioning than the Asolos that I had tried on and are sturdy, but not stiff. They required absolutely no breaking in. I wore these boots for the first time on Grays and Torreys Peak, which is about 8.5 mi round trip. I ended up hiking on very rocky terrain, gravel, mud, water, and snow and they did great. I've had these boots for a few weeks and have hiked about 25 mi. in the rocky mtns. and have had no problems. I have wide feet and the toe box is very roomy and it doesn't feel tight anywhere.

Comments about Salomon Quest 4D GTX Hiking Boots - Women's:
Bought these boots in a pinch before a Mt. Kilimanjaro trek when my old boots gave up the ghost. Despite the reviews that these boots tend not to be waterproof, I tub-tested them and found them to be dry. However, we had an unexpected 6 days of rain on Mt. Kilimanjaro and by day 2 my feet were wet, by day 3, I was squishing with every step (wore rain paint and gaiters). The boots needed no break in, were totally comfortable with my orthotics, provided good traction even in the wet weather, and great ankle support. The wet boots nearly prevented me from summiting - but our guides changed the plan to summit during the day (not freezing), so I could still make it to the top. I am heartbroken to have to return these boots, since they fit so well, but cannot keep a pricey pair of boots that don't hold up in the rain.

Comments about Salomon Quest 4D GTX Hiking Boots - Women's:
I have a wide-ish front foot, very high arches and a narrow heel, so trying to find hiking boots is always a challenge. Couldn't get Asolo's to work without rubbing my heels raw on the uphills, so I tried these Salomons after remembering a good pair of Salomon day hikers I'd once had.
There are roomy in the toe box, but not so much it's blister causing. It just took time to get used to since I'm not accustomed to having enough room there. The heel cups very, very well. I only had very slightly rubbing on one heel while climbing a decent sized mountain, but not enough to break out the moleskin. The arch support isn't outstanding, but I don't need inserts, so it's not bad.
My only negative comment is that they are not waterproof at all. Mine have goretex, but it sure doesn't work. I got them soaked just walking through wet grass and then had to deal with wet boots for the next three days of camping. So, waterproof spray is your friend or plan on wet feet.

Comments about Salomon Quest 4D GTX Hiking Boots - Women's:
These boots fit my wider feet incredibly well and have a lot of room in the toe box. They have a good ratio of flexible and stiffness. They're comfortable and flexible on more level ground, but also remain stable on talus. I added an insert for better arch support. The boots rub a lot on the heels when going uphill. The upside is that my enormous heel blisters impressed 5-year-olds. I now take preemptive measures to prevent blisters, but the heel area of the boots never quite broke in.

Comments about Salomon Quest 4D GTX Hiking Boots - Women's:
I have a hard time finding boots for my wide feet. These have great room in the toe box. I do have to use orthodics because they don't have enough arch support for me. They did require some break in time. They were really uncomfortable on the backs of my heels going up hill. I had to have the boot completely untied when they were new. They are much better now, but I still get some hot spots on my heels if there is a lot of elevation change. They are definately not waterproof. They leak water through the sides after only walking through wet grass for about 15 mintues. They also take a really long time to dry out if they get wet. However, they are very comfortable when walking on trails that aren't too steep and they have great traction. I have used them on two 7+ day backpacking trips and lots of day hikes and they have worked for me.

Comments about Salomon Quest 4D GTX Hiking Boots - Women's:
I find these boots to be horribly uncomfortable in the heal cup area. I have tried to break these boots in but find there is no hope. Blisters and pain occur right where the padding enters into the heal cup. For the price of these boots I was hoping for a hole lot more, additionally Salomon is impossible to contact.
