Salomon Quest 4D GTX Hiking Boots - Women's is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 42.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great boots I bought these boots for a three-week trek in the Himalayas, with a month of hiking at home in the Tetons to break them in first. They were a complete success! I took two pairs of hiking shoes with me-- the other being a low-top Salomon hiking shoe-- because I typically have to baby my feet. But my Quests were so comfortable that I wore them all day every day, not even changing into my other shoes in the evenings. The Quests are lightweight and break in easily; they have a wide forefoot but moderate heel. Frankly, I wear them with the forefoot barely laced and the ankle done up snugly. I bought a half-size smaller than my normal street-shoe size. Our trek included two days of hiking in wet, ankle-deep snow, and I had the driest feet of our group. Interestingly, one sock was barely damp after a whole day hiking in snow; the other sock was fairly wet (though not soaking), making me wonder if its Goretex liner wasn't properly sewn. Still everyone else in our party was wringing out their socks at the end of the day. If you want boots that you can wear day in and day out in wet conditions, get a full leather boot and waterproof the heck out of them. But if you want a lightweight boot that is REALLY comfortable, breaks in easily, and is pretty darn waterproof-- and you have wide feet-- this is a great choice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love these boots I can't stress enough how happy I am with these boots. I have use them on several hiking and backpacking trips, and they perform beautifully. They offer great ankle support, as well as good arch support. The gore-text membrane offers excellent protection from water, making these water resistant. I have never had problems of wet socks after creek crossings. They have great traction. The rubber outsoles keep you stable in both dry and wet conditions. I feel very safe when going through boulders or any type of incline. I especially like the Ortholite® foot beds that add shock absorption, these are treated with an antimicrobial that helps deter odor. I have done 17 miles hikes and my feet have not ever smelled bad, and had no problems with blisters. The Salomon quest has rubber toe caps and heel slings that protect toes and uppers from bumps and abrasion. Another thing to consider is that these boots were made to perform well while backpacking, for carrying loads over 30lbs. After backpacking through the Enchantments and carrying 34lbs, I have to say I am very happy with my choice of boots. While they are not the lightest boots out there, at 2lbs 9 oz, with all the pros and comfort that these boots have to offer I don't see how you could go wrong. They are also very stylish and come in colors other than the boring gray and brown. After I got my pair, my aunt and best friend liked them so much they both now own their own. And they say they are the best hiking boots they've ever had, and I have to agree with them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from PERFECT SERIOUS HIKING BOOT I am a reasonably fit woman with some on-going foot and knee issues (due to an old running injury). I hiked part of the AT with my dad last year and was very worried about not finding the right shoes before our trek. These were AWESOME! We did 3 days, 2 nights, 32.1 miles, at 4000-6000 ft, with 35lb+ packs through all sorts of weather (including some rain and snow!) on a very unpredictable and rocky/stumpy trail. Of all the parts of my body that hurt, not once did my feet or knees bother me at all. I wore these boots fewer than ten times and for fewer 20 miles before our hike. I feel like I didn't really have to break them in at all. They were immediately comfortable and continued to be so. I LOVE them. I wish I had another hike planned. I guess I'll just have to wear them around here as my winter boots. :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best boots I've ever owned I am an avid hiker and outdoors-woman, and I LOVE these boots! From the instant I slipped them on they felt like they were made specifically for my feet. They had zero break-in time (although I chose to wear them on a short 3-mile day hike the day I bought them), and my feet/calves don't get sore/tired when I wear them. They have great traction on rugged terrain and stellar ankle support when you step off that rock the wrong way. You won't be disappointed in these boots, and I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a high-quality, durable, extremely comfortable hiking boot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfort and Support I have a narrow heel and a wide toe. These fit perfectly! Short break-in time and incredibly comfortable. The laces are a bit stiff but not "difficult". With a pair of superfeet they have fantastic arch support. A little pricey but worth it. They will stand the test of time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Kilimanjaro never felt so comfortable! Climbed Kilimanjaro in these. I didn't even have to break them in (didn't have time so we packed a lot of bandaids-which I NEVER needed). No blisters-felt like running sneakers. Also, discovered they were comfortable to wear around the camp (we lost our luggage). Trekked through a lot of rain and cold weather conditions-these were durable-waterproof-and my ankles never felt tired at the end of the day. I couldn't have wished for a better hiking boot.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from bad arch, lacks bottom of foot support I have re-occuring plantar faciitis and a heel spur... I also have twisty ankles. I wanted a light-weight boot that wouldn't tire out my legs (increasing my risk of sprains) but also supportive enough to protect the bottom of my feet and arch. These boots have a slightly wider forefoot than my old Asolos and are much lighter so I thought I'd give them a try. The sole width in the heel and heel cup are really supportive of the ankle and I felt really stable in these and one really cool thing about these boots is I really like the ankle hook locking mechanism that allows for custom lacing and a nice fit..... However the soles are too thin and there is no natural arch support in these boots. After each day hike and a single 12-mile RT overnighter with light pack the bottom of my feet felt like hamburger even with the addition of really supportive inserts (I don't bother with the flimsy ones that come with any boot). Another thing about sizing is that even though these boots have a wide toe box, the mid-foot is kind of narrow and I ended up with a blister and the side of my foot. I can't recommend these boots to anybody with foot support needs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from These Boots are Fantastic! I have never once had a blister in these boots, and that is after over 250 miles of use. I bought them 2 weeks before a 50 mile backpacking endeavor after finding out that my previous boots (great for day hikes) destroyed my feet when worn while carrying a load. I systematically and methodically broke these boots in before my trip. (I started at 1 mile for two days, and then each day increased the distance by 0.5 miles.) I wore these for the entire backpacking trip and did not have one blister or toenail issue (something I've had from past boots.) I have never completely submerged the boots in water, but when splashing through puddles and mud, they keep my feet dry. I've never gotten them soaked through. Last week, I made a dumb and forgetful move. I went on a hike and discovered when I got to the park (an hour away) that I had just put on a pair of cute socks that came up to my ankle. After 8 miles, my ankles were slightly sore, but still NO BLISTERS. I love these boots, and I hope they last forever and I never ever have to buy another pair again. If I have to completely replace them I might cry.
