The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about Vibram FiveFingers TrekSport Multisport Shoes - Men's:
got mines yesterday and was a little skeptical about these, cause i have flat feet but they felt really comfortable. first thing i noticed was when i got in my truck, pressed the brake pedal, the ball of my foot pressed down and my big toe hugged the side of the pedal thinking to myself "this is cool, im gonna have a good workout today". i tried squats, deadlifts, leg press machine, smith machine shrugs and bench. in my regular gym shoes (nike shoxs) my feet would move a little during the repetitions of those various exercises, which really annoys me. but instead i felt my toes digg into the ground providing more balance and felt more power. i topped it off with a run, and felt good, didnt feel any knee pain and ended up running a little longer than expected. woke up and felt muscles in my calves that i never felt before. i will buy them again and probably going to end up replacing regular shoes when i hit the gym. highly recommended them if you have flat feet

Comments about Vibram FiveFingers TrekSport Multisport Shoes - Men's:
Though the Trek Sport is sold as a trail running shoe, I picked up a pair specifically for hiking and backpacking, and I couldn't be happier with them.
I own several pairs of Vibram FiveFingers and have gone backpacking in a pair of regular KSOs, but the soles are a little too thin when wearing a heavy pack. I was hoping the slightly thicker soles on these would make the hiking more comfortable.
For their first real test, I wore my Trek Sports on a 28 mile, four day backpack in the Maroon Bells Wilderness on the Four Pass Loop. Throughout, the Trek Sports held up marvelously. The uppers survived several snags without any damage and the increased sole thickness allowed me to walk over loose rocks without pain while wearing a pack. Sure, I didn't feel the ground underneath as well as with my regular KSOs, but the ground feel was by no means lost. All in all, I'd say it was a fair compromise.
For me, the best part of these shoes is that they are the first ones that did not give me blisters. Unfortunately, my feet are extremely prone to sweating, and every type of shoe I have ever used gave me blisters while hiking. I've tried sock liners, powders, etc, but nothing ever helped. With these, I completed the entire Four Pass Loop without even a hotspot.
My main complaint about these shoes is with how tight they feel around the toes. It seems the upper material isn't as stretchy as other VFFs, so my toes felt like they were being squeezed the first few times I wore them. However, they've loosened up over time (or I got used to them) and now I hardly notice it.
Also, watch for stubbed toes. These shoes do provide some protection, but if you hit too hard like I did, it can hurt.
Nevertheless, these are my new favorite hiking shoes. I highly recommend them if you're willing to take the time to strengthen your feet enough (i.e., ease into using them if you've never gone barefooting or used minimalist shoes). In my opinion, the freeing feeling they give you are more than worth it.

Comments about Vibram FiveFingers TrekSport Multisport Shoes - Men's:
I have been wearing my vibrams for about 6 months now, and they are the best running shoes I have ever owned. These shoes helped me cut 2 minutes off of my 2 mile run. I run in them every other day for a distance of about 4 to 5 miles. A few months ago, I was deployed to sunny Afghanistan. The roads here are not paved, and provide for a very rocky, gravel-laden run. Currently, there is a great debate regarding whether these shoes are allowed for wear as per AR-670-1. The Marines on our installation are allowed to wear them. The Air Force is not. Our Army command here has given us permission to wear them, after we reviewed the facts. So, for anyone that is interested, I'm a doctor and here are the facts. Many SF and Navy Seal teams use these during their training exercises. Navy physical therapy doctors on nearby installations use these shoes to help rehab their soldiers' ankle sprains. These shoes will change the way you walk and run, and will help strengthen the muscles, tendons and ligaments involved in these activities. Many of us here use them for crossfit and cross training exercises as well. However, you must obtain approval from your individual command before you can wear them, and like any other sneaker, you must wear them with white socks that cover the ankle as per AR-670-1. I like the Injinji toe socks because they are very thin, breathable, and do not affect the wear, feel or function of the shoe. Alright, so now back to the shoe... it works well in the rain, but your feet will still get wet. It holds traction very well in muddy, trail environments as well. Running on gravel can be uncomfortable if you hit a big rock, but the size of the gravel makes a huge difference. Rocks smaller than 1 cm don't bother me at all. Running in subzero temperatures is uncomfortable in these shoes as well since there is not much between your feet and the elements. I have not seen any injuries from these shoes here. They force you to run carefully. In conclusion, I am a huge fan of these shoes and would recommend them to any soldier looking to improve their run.

Comments about Vibram FiveFingers TrekSport Multisport Shoes - Men's:
I have owned a pair of VFF sprints for a few months and like them for the most part. The problem with the sprints is that the sole is a bit thin for trail running eg pebbles still hurt pretty bad. Also with the open top of the sprints they're prone to getting gravel, sand, etc in the shoe. Very annoying. So I ordered a pair of TrekSports, thicker sole, covered top, the perfect shoe. Except for one very important detail, the big toe sleeve on the left shoe is WAY too tight, like half the size it needs to be. I know that it's the shoe and not my foot cause I already have a pair of sprints that fit fine, and it's only on the left shoe. On my sprints its the same fit left and right. I'm talking pain from just wearing the shoe, I can't even imagine trying to run in them. I think the real problem here is the individual toes, I think it's not needed and it would be a perfect shoe were the toes not divided. Not only is there potential for one of the toes being too tightly sewn but it's also uncomfortable having all of your toes separated. The point of these shoes is to make it like being barefoot, but when I'm barefoot my toes don't have 1/8" of stuff in between them. As far as barefoot type running shoes go the best thing I've found is a company called LUNA SANDALS. They make hurache sandals. I recently ran a marathon in Lunas and they worked out great. My feet felt open and free which was a very nice feeling. They're great for trails too. I just wish vibram would abandon the divided toe design, it's very unnatural and creates too much unneeded pressure on my toes.

i'm on my third pair of vibrams this year and, just like the previous two, holes are appearing between the toes. every pair has had less than 100 miles put on them. granted, most of those miles are from running rugged trails here in the southwest but i still expect more from a shoe that currently costs about $100 and one they promote as a "trail running shoe". majorly bummed. i've been a huge proponent of the shoe but the glow is fading...

These are great KSO shoes. They are basically a hybrid of the standard and the Treks: thicker soles with heavier traction + mesh top for comfort, breathability, and easy to clean.
The standards are not very comfortable running on lots of lose rock and gravel or other sharp objects, and the Treks have leather uppers, which for me, are harder to keep clean and fresh looking.
All 3 models are 5 stars, but if I had to keep only one, it would be these.
Of course, you can have these shoes in any color you like as long as it is black.

After buying a pair of 5 Fingers for my wife a few months ago I decided to give them a try for myself. I was a little skeptical at first thinking all the things I've heard are a bunch of hype so the only way to really decide was to give them a try.
I hike, backpack, and run so I wanted something versatile and good looking. I went for the TrekSport because of the great tread and the black/gray looks good. They are lightweight and easy to pack so they work great as camp shoes.
I've been using them all day and went on a short run to test them out and they performed exactly as advertised.
I am very happy with these shoes and will most likely end up keeping a pair in my closet.

Comments about Vibram FiveFingers TrekSport Multisport Shoes - Men's:
I'm living in the mountains of Colorado. I purchased these shoes so that I could start trail running and hiking. I've used other trail running shoes, and these by far are the best. They don't absorb shock as a normal running shoe would... they are minimalistic. Be careful that you don't make the mistake I did and start running directly after getting them. My calf muscles are killing me. Work into them slowly. That being said, they appear very durable, and are comfortable to wear. I've already put over 30 miles on em, and they look brandnew. They grip the trails perfectly.
If you are ordering online, follow the instructions in regards to measuring your foot. Order 1 size bigger than the measurement that you took. I didn't and at times my toes feel a little cramped.
I really like the toe guard that is new to this model. It keeps your toes from getting totally banged up. Also, be sure to keep your toe nails short. If you don't, you might wear a hole in the tops of them. I love them, and wear them everywhere. I highly suggest them.

Comments about Vibram FiveFingers TrekSport Multisport Shoes - Men's:
I purchased mine about a month ago from REI in Lakewood, CO. I'll start off with what I've done in them and how they worked for me on different terrains.I run primarily in the mountains and I must say, these were not designed for it. I run up and down hills, over rocks, snow, rivers, ice, and mud. The traction is astounding especially when they are used properly. I have also used them for light hiking (I have a set of Zamberlan boots for the heavy hiking). The trails I run on are considered "hiking" trails for a lot of people. The description for the shoe does not say they are a trail running shoe, so I did use them outside of their designated uses. What I liked about them: They are incredibly light weight. Very similar to running barefoot but with a little more protection. Great traction on everything (they do almost as well as my hiking boots on all surfaces except ice where they do better). Very comfortable. I had no blisters or any sores other than some sore bones/muscles getting used to running "barefoot" over boulders. They are great for driving in. The thin sole gives a nice connection with the vehicle/road. Same goes for trail running. Apart from actually being barefoot, you can't get a better connection with the trail. What I don't like about them: They wore out very quickly. Took me a month to wear them out. For me, that's unacceptable for a[$] shoe. They are said to be machine washable, but I don't recommend it. Just accept that they will smell. The machine is hard on the shoes, even on gentle cycle. The light insole inside of mine started shredding along with holes that were starting to form in the mesh between the toes and on the side of my foot. The sole started to tear in one spot. Though overall, I would consider the soles excellent and very durable. The downfall to the shoe is the uppers. Some side notes: Lots of comments from people around you. My dogs seem to love the coconut fibers in the uppers. Not so good for hiking with much weight. [...] In my opinion it still needs a lot of work.[...] I'll stay with them for a little while. I suppose it is possible I got a bad pair...Based on this one pair I would only recommend these shoes to someone with enough money to buy a new pair every couple months. They are an incredible shoe to wear and the feeling is unbeatable. The durability is a huge downfall for me.

I have a pair of the KSOs that I wanted to replace with a pair of the trek. I got the Treks in the same size and it turns out they are definitely smaller than the KSOs with the same number. I'm going to exchange for a larger pair but it is unfortunate that the sizing isn't consistent.
