by fromGreat until I have several of the old-style "Nikole" bags. I've used them for years as a purse (and small dayhiking bag when I get out and about). The design was perfect; I have neck and shoulder problems and the 2-strap carrying was ideal. The long back zipper allowed me to stuff my mail or traveling documents easily into the flat section behind the main compartment. I could even put a file folder in the main section without mangling it.Then I ordered another one, since the older ones are wearing out...and then sadly returned it to REI. The "improvements" included padding the shoulder straps more and widening them. That wasn't a problem. But they were also shortened. That WAS a problem - the new bag felt crowded, and I couldn't adequately expand the straps. They also shortened the zipper for the back compartment, so I could no longer get my mail into that formerly-marvelous area. Some other changes weren't a problem, even though I was used to the older design - where the pens could be stored, those kinds of things. I could easily have adjusted to them.BUT the shortened straps and reduced back-compartment capacity rendered the new bag basically unusable, and I returned it. I have absolutely no idea what I'll do when my old-style bags completely wear out.

by fromNot quite what I wanted I bought the bag to be my "city bag"- I had to replace a fabulous satchel from England that I just destroyed through constant use. I wanted to have something that could hold a snack, a book, a notepad, maybe some water, maybe a camera, and be reasonably secure against pickpockets. I live in a city, so often want something that is easy to carry hands-free. It's a good bag and I liked the recycle aspect, and especially the easily available zip-up water bottle pouch. Many people complimented the bag. However, I felt it was awkward to open and perhaps TOO generous in capacity. I've never had so many people ask me to hold something for them! I just don't really like backpacks. I did use it for a few trips as it was the best alternative, but then I saw the similar messenger style bag, and switched to that! I gave my backpack to a friend who LOVES it for baby stuff!

by fromHigh Quality! I bought this day bag approximately 3 to 4 years ago. I don't like carrying purses so I use it everyday and it has been all over the world. I'm pretty rough on it, throwing it on the ground, hanging it by its straps, etc., and it still looks brand new! I'm not sure what the previous comment was about the "old" bags being roomier because this is a fairly old bag and is the same design as the ones REI is currently selling. I find that it has plenty of room for a day bag. It easily carries a couple of water bottles, my makeup bag, my wallet, etc. It has lots of pockets for separating things and pockets for credit/gift cards, pens and various items. I I LOVE THIS BAG! And it's cute too! My only wish is that REI would bring back the Gray/Black color because it blends in with more outfits.

by fromI have this bag in two colors... I use this bag as a purse. I have it in the brown/beige and also in the black/gray. It holds everything I need and is super easy to use. It's also cute. When I am out on day trips it is also big enough to hold my DSLR and an extra lens. I love this bag so much that I have also purchased two as gifts, one for a mom and one for a friend who just carries a lot of stuff. They both love it as well.

by fromThe perfect daybag! I never carry a purse, and this is the best small backpack I've ever found. Plenty of room without being bulky, easy access to everything, and the strap design means carrying it over one shoulder actually works. The fact that it's made from recycled PET bottles is the icing on the cake. It's durable as heck, but not heavy. I can stuff an amazing amount into it, but it's light and compact when I don't have much in it. Plan to buy more in case it ever actually does wear out.

by fromMust-Have Bag I've spent A LOT of time searching for a functional and stylish errand bag and I'm happy to have finally found it! This bag is the perfect size (not bulky) and has practical compartments. The two tone color and subtle graphic give it a hint of style. I frequently go into D.C. on weekends to run errands and show visiting friends around -- this bag fits my needs to carry essential items comfortably, but without the look or size of an ugly backpack.
