Comments about Madshus Amica 100 Cross-Country Boots - Women's:
But for an amazing three snowstorms in March I would have had to wait til next winter to try out these boots I just bought. I have skied twice using this boot and only for a very limited period of time---less than an hour. (Before the snow melted!) So far the boot was very comfortable and I anticipate that to hold true for longer distances.
Why only two and not three outings, you may ask? I returned a pair of Fischer My Style boots because the zipper came down before I got 10 feet from the porch, so I used my old skis with the 20-year old 3-pin boots.
Comparing the Madschus with the Fischer, I think the Fischer is better constructed and it looked warmer (caution, runs a size small!).
However, I like the side zipper better since it is less likely to unzip when you flex your leg and it seems the laces were more accessible in the Madschus. I wish the neoprene would fold back even farther.
My biggest complaint about the Madschus is that the bottom portion of the boots is like a dense, woven material--think hiking boots. Plus the boots are light colored. I'm concerned they will be hard to clean and will look like an old pair of tennis shoes. I couldn't see this aspect online. In marginal ski conditions, you *do* encounter dirt! Since I plan to use my boots for years, this is my reason for not recommending them. If there's a good way to clean them or even dye them a darker color, then they're great!
Service and delivery comments:
REI is fantastic with service and returns! I live in an area with little snow--i.e. no dealer in x-c ski equipment within 100 miles that I could find--so I greatly appreciated the guidance the product folks gave me.
