Comments about Marmot PreCip Rain Jacket - Women's:
I bought this rain jacket before a 3 month backpacking trip through Europe. I expected to use it often for rain protection and for the pockets, layering underneath for warmth. Water seeped in through the seams AND the fabric. It was especially bad near the pack's shoulder straps. The pit zips were nice, but seeing as I needed a rain jacket, this product was not satisfying. Also, as it got colder I started wearing gloves that often got caught on the pocket velcro closures. Bummer.

Comments about Marmot PreCip Rain Jacket - Women's:
This product was a gift that was intended to be a fall/spring hiking jacket that would be wind resistant and waterproof enough to be a basic shell layer. I also wanted to use it while running in winter and rainy conditions.
This jacket is perfect for cold weather running, as the pit zips allow for ventilation, while the material of the jacket still retains warmth. It is too warm for running in anything warmer than 50 degrees. It also has worked as a decent shell layer during temperate hikes (I wore while jogging down the Tuckerman's Ravine trail from Lunch Rocks after a warmish day of spring skiing).
In rainy conditions, water leaks into the jacket through the fabric, making the inner sleeves, chest, and back damp, which could be a problem for someone trying to stay warm when occasional stops must be made. The seams are not sealed, so I'm not sure how Marmot gets away with labeling this as "waterproof."
My advice: If you're really looking to stay dry, buy something with sealed seams and with GoreTex Performance or GoreTex Pro material.

Comments about Marmot PreCip Rain Jacket - Women's:
Have worn a few times since buying for biking in wet weather, but really put it to the test in a Costa Rican rain forest for first time. Even with the pit zips, got a little sticky and clammy. By the end of a two hour hike with fairly steady (but not downpour) rain, it was starting to soak through, especially on shoulders and upper back. A little disappointing, but overall should be okay for my regular every day use.

Comments about Marmot PreCip Rain Jacket - Women's:
This coat as a lot of problems...
I bought a small blue marmot jacket in December 2009, because I needed a light weight rain coat to wear around in light showers hiking and around town, at first I lovved the coat, it was perfect for the rain, it dried out sooo fast.
But as I kept wearing it, it did not hold up well- it wore out very quickly, I found myself exchanging it to get the new model in brown in the spring (hoping that it would be better), and sadly after having that coat, it wore out even faster it seemed, and it had ripped where the pit zipper lining are at- on the both sides. The hood is also too short- it wont stay down and protect my forehead from the rain.
BUT it does protect at least the rest of your body from the rain, the coat does get soaked though- pretty fast, but your clothes underneath wont get wet. The brown also seemed to get dirty much more easily for some reason.
Don't expect this coat to protect you from any sort of wind/cold by it self (I guess that's true for most light weight coats though) or you will freeze to death.
As far as the fit goes, it's "stylish", but if your planning on wearing fleece or more bulky clothes underneath, I would get a size up. I'm a petite person, I'm 5' 1" and weigh around 110 pounds, and you would think a small could do the trick plus have enough room for fleece and etc. Also it has the zipper and Velcro in the front, which can be nice, but if you don't velcro up, then it looks kinda weird with just it zipped up. The bottom also rolls up kinda weird when your sitting down or moving. I wore this coat once to go running, and it was annoying, plus the plastic sticks to you as you sweat. I also play a lot of ultimate Frisbee, and this coat is not a good coat do that with in the rain.
I ended up exchanging this coat AGAIN and getting the ultra light REI coat, which I LOVE and have been using for awhile and it holds up very well.
If you plan on buying this coat, I would suggest not wearing it around town, and only for light showers hiking or just having it as a casual jacket and not for hiking, it doesn't seem to be able to serve two purposes without wearing out VERY fast. But I would suggest and caution away as much as possible from buying this product.
Find something else- like the REI ultra light or even north face, if really just want a casual jacket.

While I haven't been able to test this jacket out in a torrential downpour, I've used it out in the rain several times and have been very satisfied and 100% dry. Check out other reviews (like on buzzillions) and you'll see that this jacket gets excellent reviews.I've actually been wearing my girlfriend's jacket for several months now and I'm finally buying another of my own!

Comments about Marmot PreCip Rain Jacket - Women's:
I research every detail of each piece of apparel and equipment I buy, before I buy it. After weeks of reading reviews, researching recommended fabrics per my activities, and talking to multiple (avid) backpackers. I decided on the PreCip jacket and couldn't be any happier or more confident in my choice. I'm 5'9", 125lbs, so usually I'm somewhat swimming in the jackets I buy (to get the length in the sleeves), but this jacket fits me perfectly and doesn't ride up over my wrists when I lift my arms (if you're tall, you know how rare and valuable this quality is). I love my jacket.

Comments about Marmot PreCip Rain Jacket - Women's:
For yearsI have loved Marmot, but they really dropped the ball on this jacket. It is NOT waterproof! I previously had a Precip jacket for 6 years and it was fabulous, always kept me dry and very high quality. It was time to update so I naturally bought the same jacket. This jacket is NOT the same. It is very thin, poor quality and NOT waterproof. The only good thing? It's cute, but cute isn't going to keep me dry. Boo on Marmot:(

Comments about Marmot PreCip Rain Jacket - Women's:
I wore this jacket for the second half of a 14 mile run yesterday because the wind picked up and I needed another layer. I was expecting it to move around some as I ran, or create extra bulk, but instead it added a layer of warmth, it kept the wind out, and the pitzips allowed for adequate ventilation when I got too warm. My husband has the same jacket in a men's, so I know the waterproofing will be good too, although I haven't worn it in the rain yet. But if you are looking for a lightweight rain jacket for running or cycling, this is definitely a winner.

Comments about Marmot PreCip Rain Jacket - Women's:
This is for the most part a great jacket, especially if you live in the dreary NW like I do - its light and super compact, also, its cute: I get great compliments on it. My only two gripes are: I washed it and didn't dry it to code or something, and now the waterproofing is lacking (which defeats the purpose of a rain jacket), and I would re-proof it, except for gripe #2: the velcro closures on the body and wrist of the jacket are super annoying. Especially while wearing sweaters, scarves, gloves (some or all of which you may want to wear with a rain coat), they catch all the time. Messing up my clothes, and catching to each other as well. Also, once on a trip while it was in a suit case those nasty velcro deals snagged a nice shirt of mine. I'll just get a new one instead of re-proofing.

Comments about Marmot PreCip Rain Jacket - Women's:
All day kayaking trip to a glacier in the pouring rain, and my under layers were dry as a bone. Sleeve closures, although not as fully protective as a paddle jacket, closed enough to prevent paddle drips from going up my sleeve. The hood visor had enough coverage to keep rain off of my glasses. Although this is only a shell, it provided excellent wind coverage as well and kept me warm. An added bonus - I received many compliments on the color.
