The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about ACR Electronics Sarlink View 406 Personal Locator Beacon:
I spend a lot of time solo in the back country of Washington, Idaho, and Montana and would not venture out without my Sarlink in my pack! I dabbled with the Spot "messengers" for a year and found them to be utterly useless, unreliable, and expensive. The Sarlink Vue, on the other hand, is easy to use and it works each and every time I've tested its functions linking to the high and low satellites to send a position report. I chose the "vue" model because its firmware allows 60 GPS tests in the five year period compared to a lower number for the non vue model. I also subscribed to 406 link which for a very nominal fee allows me to attach personal messages to my test message and send it to a selected list of people who have my back when out venturing. While I checked Avid Adventurer I am a professional Swift Water Rescue Technician and these things have their place on the water although I would buy the floating model for that purpose. I'm eagerly awaiting ACR's new ResQ link which looks to be half the size and weight of the Sarlink with all of the same functions.

Comments about ACR Electronics Sarlink View 406 Personal Locator Beacon:
This, like my other ACR products, is well engineered and a "required" piece of gear in my personal survival bag. I fly all over Pennsylvania and it goes with me along me. The Cessna I fly still has a 121.5 ELT, so this 406 MHz PLB just makes commonsense. [...] You only need to use this during an emergency. Press the button and SAR is still notified! One a bit more up front, but you get the same basic result..... a RESCUE!

Comments about ACR Electronics Sarlink View 406 Personal Locator Beacon:
A PLB is something you never want to have to actually use and so far I've been lucky. In my opinion (after a lot of research) the ACR is the best of the PLB's. I'm an avid backpacker. I go away at least once a month into mountainous remote wilderness areas beyond cell service and my wife has been concerned about me. I opted for the ACR subscription service that will allow me to send an "I'm OK" message via satellite each night so she knows all is well. It's a preset message, so I can't get chatty, but she gets the important info. If something really happens to me, then the PLB gives Search and Rescue personnel all the info they need to find me and since it must, by law, be registered with the Feds, they will know that it's me as soon as they receive a distress signal from me.
I really like this unit. I would be delighted if it was a bit lighter - I'm leaning toward ultra-light backpacking - but I believe the peace of mind for my wife and my improved chances of survival should major accident occur makes it worth the weight and the expense. It is a pricey unit, but how much is life worth ...
