Comments about The North Face Surge Daypack:
I love Bags in general, and this maybe the best backpack I've ever owned. It's got plenty of room and lots of pockets for organization.
I commute by bike all summer, and It's got enough space for 2 changes of clothes, a full size towel, a laptop, a pair of shoes, full sized U-Lock, and still has room to spare. It also looks great, and is comfortable to wear.

Comments about The North Face Surge Daypack:
I have just received this pack today and couldn't be more thrilled to use it. This back is solid and I haven't noticed any drawbacks to it. The only thing I can think of right now is the WATER BOTTLE pockets will most likely NOT FIT a NALGENE 32oz bottle. From what I noticed the perfect bottle for this pack is a SIGG 1 liter bottle, the SIGG bottles are not as wide as the 32oz nalgene. I will be using this pack everyday for a plethora of uses from going to work or college to a day hike and the gym, this pack will withstand anything. If I come across and drawbacks or flaws they will be posted. Also it is great for a 13" Macbook and the charger...This pack is great.[...]

Comments about The North Face Surge Daypack:
I broke my foot recently and had to get a backpack for my laptop and other work items to wear while on crutches.
I'm very impressed overall with the comfort, stye and function of this backpack. My laptop fits very nicely (14.1"), all my gizmos and gadgets have a place and there's even a small compartment near the bottom for the laptop's power supply. The best feature however, is the comfort. I have never owned a backpack that feels so good while wearing it. The weight is perfectly distributed down my back.
I never thought I'd spend over $100 for a backpack, but I'm glad I did. I highly recommend this to anyone who needs a comfortable and practible work / travel bag.

Comments about The North Face Surge Daypack:
This is a great pack! I spent this much on a pack for the first time because it came with the member's REI guarantee and I was sick of all my cheaper packs getting warn out. It fits my 14 inch laptop perfect and has tons of little pockets and pouches ideal for any student. Although there are a few things I would have changed if I could. The handle strap on the top of the pack is located in a weird spot so its impossible to hang it on a hook on the wall. Also the pockets on either side are too small to fit a 32oz Nalgene which is a bummer. There is no pocket for a water reservoir and there are two strange tubes going down the length of the pack in the laptop pocket I presume to add padding to protect the laptop but I don't feel like the are necessary, only a bit awkward.

Comments about The North Face Surge Daypack:
I purchased this pack for commuting to work in San Francisco and for general hauling around town as well.
I walk 2 hilly miles each way to work and tote a 15" laptop, a change of clothing and other essentials. Sometimes I like to grab some groceries on the way home and I haul those in the backpack too. We're talking milk in glass bottles stuff.
The good:
This pack has a lot of good technical features (pockets) and the construction is very good; well assembled quality materials. Under light loads, it carries very well and feels good on your back.
The not so good:
Under heavy loads (my most frequent use case) the straps dig in to my shoulders/arms and nearly causes a loss of circulation to my arms. This seems to be caused by a number of design issues: the angle of the straps across my shoulders is not flush, they pull in at a slight angle; the edges of the straps, while durable, are not soft at all and since they are what is pressing against my shoulders it kinda hurts; the length of the straps - they stay wide well beyond the weight carrying range of their length which leaves a bunch of strap crammed between your torso and your arms. The lack of finer adjustments and the overall stiffness of the suspension system makes these issues unavoidable.
I really wanted this pack to be a winner. I've tried adjusting the straps every which way and it bums me out that I can't get the level of comfort that I need. The build quality and storage options are excellent. A good pack should be something you forget about, the less you are reminded that it is there the better. Not so in this case.
My guess is that my body geometry is just not right for this pack. Commuter packs tend not to have the micro-adjustments that the higher-end backpacking packs allow for so you have to get a good fit right out of the box. Know that the way a pack hangs on your back changes when it is under load.
Bottom line:
This could be a _great_ pack if it fits you. I recommend going in to an REI store and carrying it around on your back with bean bag weights in it.

Comments about The North Face Surge Daypack:
Great all around product! Looks good and functions better. I'm not sure but it feels like this pack is made from The North Face's HYVENT material so it may be waterproof to a degree. I've used it for "Slackpacking" and also to carry my laptop and other supplies. Lots of compartments and built in organizers. The fit is great and it holds a hydration bladder well in the front compartment. Looks good, and feels well made and durable. Get one, suburbanite or urbanite! Mine is black in color as I like to stay as tactical as possible....
Service and delivery comments:
Bought in the store. Good service and displayed properly.

Comments about The North Face Surge Daypack:
I bought this bag to replace a defective Keen laptop bag I'd bought. It exceeded my expectations from the beginning.
The bag is sturdy, has a lot of great pockets, and is just the right size for me. I feel like it will last a long time and so far, it's held up excellently in the rainy winter conditions. I expect I will be using this to travel in addition to commuting to and from work.

Comments about The North Face Surge Daypack:
The Surge descriptions don't touch on all the nice little features this bag has. I went through 4 bags this year (thanks to REI's great policies!) trying to find the perfect motorcycling commute bag that could double as a travel bag or day hike bag, not to mention the other 3 daypacks I own that i've tried out. I just took it on an overseas trip and it was the most useful airplane backpack i've had. I happen to really like to keep things organized so i don't have to keep searching for things - with 2 little kids i have enough trouble keeping track of things!
features i really like:
1. The side mesh bags have 2 pockets each, with a side-opening mesh that's great for my work ID and can still fit a water bottle via the traditional top-opening mesh bag.
2. laptop sleeve fits 15" macbook pro. probably fits a hydration sleeve too as there is also the feeder tabs on the shoulder straps. Very easy to pull out laptop at airport security.
4. main compartment is used for my files and paperwork. works well for clothes on a short trip.
5. deluxe organizer section holds a wide range of stuff - pens, biz cards, DVDs, headphones, cell phone, extra motorcycle gear.
6. front pocket allows quick access to things like lip balm, my credit card sleeve, sunglasses - it's like a 2nd organizer pocket. 2 side-angle zips and a top clip gives me various ways to access stuff quickly.
7. bottom compartment is awesome - i love not having these small but bulky items in the way in the regular laptop & file sections!
8. most of the time the bag is fairly snug using the compression straps. i could probably buy a light bag of groceries and fit it all into this bag!
Only nit is the waist belt is standard skinny webbing, so may be OK for mountain bike rides where i don't want the bag sloshing around, but doesn't look like it'll really help redistribute weight on a hike.
