I had a pair of the Candy pedals, which I moved to another bike and replaced with these. The Candy didn't provide much of a platform, so I thought I might as well go for no platform at all... Overall, I love the Crank Bro's system. Easy entry and exit, holds when it should, lets me out when I want to be out. The pedal design makes it unlikely to get jammed up with mud or anything else, so it's very reliable. No issues to far, so I'd say it's great!
I purchased these pedals because I wanted something that would be easier to clip into for quick starts especially while in front of cars. My last pair were one sided and had to be flipped over before clipping in. Eggbeater pedals looked appealing because of never needing to flip them over. I have found them difficult to clip into because they seem to need perfect alligment of the shoe cleat. I find that I have to keep pedaling and wiggling and restepping my foot until I step just right. On the plus side I can pedal while trying to clip in without slipping off and without looking at my feet. My shimano Style SPD's were much easier when flipped correctly and stepping. I have been riding them everyday but only but have only had them for one week. If they don't get easier next time I will probably get double sided shimano SPD style.
I discovered crank brothers for road and mtn years ago. Much easier to get out of than SPD due to the lack of catchy surfaces. It just spits your cleat out when turning the shoe. At any rate been using Candy 1s for years on both road and mountain bike.. I tried these Eggbeater 2 on the road bike and it’s a nice upgrade. Really a much more positive clip in, and I can feel increased power to the pedals vs, the Candy 1 model.
As a first-time clip pedal user I was advised to do the unthinkable and use MTB pedals on my road bike. I've now been out for 2 rides using my egg beaters and these are really easy to use - plus they look very cool too. I've heard good things about their durability.
