Comments about Salomon Deemax 2 Dry Winter Boots - Men's:
I took this on a cumulative 15 miles and 3000 feet in two separate hikes, and this was ALMOST the perfect winter hiking boot. First, the good stuff: It's light as a feather--lighter even than many of my old basketball shoes! Trudging up hills becomes exponentially less pleasurable with each unnecessary ounce, and these are the lightest winter boots I've come across so far.
I was worried that the Quicklace™ feature would prove more gimmicky than functional, but it actually works quite well--one firm tug on the laces, cinch down the slider body, and tuck away the excess. There was some slight loosening over the course of several miles on my left boot, but nothing excessive, and most other traditionally laced boots I've used have always needed a mid-hike adjustment or two, anyways.
Traction was excellent, though I didn't own them long enough to test their wares on packed snow or ice. Any shoe with an outsole soft enough to grip tightly on wet rocks is also going to let you feel those rocks underfoot, so don't expect miracles in that regard. That said, cushioning was very good with no hot spots, and my feet stayed dry as a bone stepping through shallow side creeks.
Now to the deal breaker. Although the fit was snug and the feel otherwise entirely comfortable, there's a suboptimal attachment between the upper and the outsole near the base of the forefoot medially, as if the upper in that area hadn't been cut to proper shape to ensure a smooth union. The result is a sensation of pinching or creasing near the inner aspect of the ball of the foot, and you can actually see the upper pinching in in that area. I was hoping it wouldn't prove to be a big deal, and although it didn't cause a hot spot or sore, it was uncomfortable enough that I couldn't keep my mind off of it throughout my hikes, and perhaps more prolonged use might have resulted in a callus. This occurred on both boots, and I suspect it may not be a size-specific issue, suggesting a design flaw. Another issue is that the temperature rating (20F) is not as good as most other boots in its class, if that's important to you.
Ultimately, I ended up returning them and replaced them with Patagonia Das Boot Mids, which thus far IS the perfect winter hiking boot! I'll probably post a review on them later after I've had a chance to test their durability with more use. All this said, everyone's feet are different, and the above issue may not happen on your feet. Definitely take them on a walk around the store first, and see if your luck might be better.

Comments about Salomon Deemax 2 Dry Winter Boots - Men's:
I got these originally just for shoveling snow and blowing a long sloping driveway. But, I've ended up wearing them to town (dressy enough for Montana), to the barn, and just slipping them on for quick winter chores. Will try them with snowshoes soon. While not intended for running, they were plenty comfortable and warm while I ran laps alongside one of the horses to warm him up.
Super comfortable and warm for such a lightweight boot. I'm a huge fan of the Salomon quicklace system (love the XT Wings trail shoes) and was happy to see that system on these boots. The velcro strap at the ankles is enough through for a quick trip to the garage / etc. The large bootstrap loop at the top of the heel is perfect for pulling the boot on quickly.

Comments about Salomon Deemax 2 Dry Winter Boots - Men's:
I really loved these boots. I got them last year and here it is this year and I need to buy another pair. I am an avid snowshoer/hiker but I took many months off with this boot during the summer. So really I only got about 6 months of actual use of out them and that's only because I've been stretching it the past couple months.
Holes began wearing through several months ago.
Lace on left boot is worn so that it does not slide in the quicklace anymore.
Lace-loops broke almost 2 months ago and I've been using them with fewer loops just to get more life out of the boot. I'd buy them again, except at this price they should last at the very least a full year, if not two years.
The lacing system worked nicely when it worked, but its novelty and the way it broke makes it so it cannot be readily repaired.
If they'd invest just a little bit of their profit margin into a stronger lace, thicker, more durable lace loops, and reinforced areas in the sneaker body to prevent holes, then this would be a great boot.

Comments about Salomon Deemax 2 Dry Winter Boots - Men's:
I usually wouldn't take the time to write a review but I am quite pleased with these boots. I was nervous to pull the trigger on the price but my feet are quite happy.
I commute by bicycle all year round and was looking for a winter boot that wasn't clipless (cycling specific) so that it would be useful for ice fishing or other winter activities. This is it! Very lightweight and warm, (especially if you're moving). We'll see how they hold up over the long term.

Comments about Salomon Deemax 2 Dry Winter Boots - Men's:
They don't really fit right without thick wool hiking socks but with them they are really warm and comfortable. I bought them for biking in the winter (I don't like to be clipped in on slippery terrain). They are also nice around town but a little warm for all day wear (of course).

Comments about Salomon Deemax 2 Dry Winter Boots - Men's:
I have owned these shoes for a little over a year. They were used extensively in Northern Minnesota and Canada. I've hiked and snowshoed as well as used them when shoveling the enormous amount of snow we had in Minnesota last year.
They are extremely lightweight, excellent traction and they keep my feet warm. However, they did not last very long. The sides on both boots have split open at the seems and if it is at all wet or slushy outside my feet now get completely soaked. I am more disappointed they didn't last as long as I would have hoped. I am not sure if Salomon will cover the warranty as they really should have lasted much longer.

Comments about Salomon Deemax 2 Dry Winter Boots - Men's:
I loved wearing these shoes. I wore them every day for the winter. Maybe that is why it fell apart. The lace loops are cloth (not metal grommets). Cloth on Cloth = failure. The loops all got cut through from regular lacing. Doesn't look like there is any way to repair them. The laces also broke... The shoelace design is nonstandard so finding a replacement is not really gonna happen. Improve how the laces are attached to the boot and you have a winner here. I liked them so much I think I want to buy them again....I will just think of them as expendable and having the lifespan of running shoes.
