This season's Patagonia R2 jacket features a refined, exclusive Polartec® Thermal Pro® outer fabric

absolutely love this jacket, I just wish it would get cold enough outside to wear it regularly. I want all of my clothing could be made out of this material because it is extremely comfortable. The jacket is not windproof, but it is not designed to be. You will be surprised how warm this jacket is compared to the thickness - seemingly thin jacket, but VERY warm- perfect mid-layer fleece. The jacket has an athletic fit: so if you are overweight- it will be tight and if you are a rail- it will be loose haha. The sleeves have a little extra length, which is great when you raise your arms above your head and you don't show everyone your happy trail. Overall- jacket rocks, everything that I wanted in a midweight fleece and perfect for mild winters on its own. Would layer in colder conditions.

No complaints about this fleece at all. I just wanna give some size information, because that's what I usually look for in reviews when I'm about to purchase something online. I'm 6'1", 160 lbs. Basically tall and thin. I bought a L. It fits me perfectly, not too snug and not too baggy. I would be concerned if I weighed maybe 20-30 lbs more. The sleeves are perfect length,but if I had a bigger chest or stomach I'd have to get an XL. Hope this is helpful for other tall and thin buyers.

I used Patagonia's R2 Fleece at the summit of Mt.Rainier in winter. Condition was -30degree in C, and 40m/s wind. I wore R2 under a windbreaker. My buddy had frostbitten, but I didn't with R2. R2 is also very light and can be fold compactly, so good for carrying anywhere.

Good coat for cooler weather- not at all wind proof, so I usually use it as a extra layer.

I usually wear Large and the XL fits me perfect, so I think they run a little small unless you like the spandex look with your coats.

This fleece is sooo comfortable. It is extremely high quality material and craftsmanship.

When I first put it on in the store I was a little surprised. I just didn't think that something this light would be warm enough. I decided to buy it anyway because I was looking for a l/w fleece that would couple with a soft shell (I got the NF Apex). And, let me say, this fleece is plenty warm in moderately cool temperatures. It's comparable in warmth to most other light fleeces I tried, but where it really shines is just it's comfort and weight (I believe it weighs significantly less than its counterparts). I also like the chest pocket.

When I buy clothes from REI I try to look for things that could also be worn around town w/o looking like a tourist or outdoor-junky. This fleece does that perfectly. It's subtly stylish, but is also practical. I think this is just about the perfect mid-layer garment.

Oh, and I want to note one thing. While I use this fleece in cold weather, I don't use it as a stand-alone. It's enough for chilly nights, but any more than that you either want the R4 or MH Monkey Man (or equivalent), or a jacket to go over it.
