Comments about REI Edgewood Travel Coat - Men's:
I have used this coat many times in the rain and had exceptional experiences with it.
Also living in the midwest with some humidity here the breathability of the coat is quite good.
Keeps rain/wind out. Keeps bodyheat in, lets sweat out.
Also I've received many compliments on the look of the coat as well.
It does have a detachable hood, which is a nice feature.

This product is absolutely amazing! I traded in a worn and torn North Face Apex Bionic and stumbled upon this little gem when I was looking for a replacement. For 20 more bucks you get more pockets (in very useful places), and a jackets that is not only windproof but also waterproof! The Bionic resists water but once caught in a rain storm on my motorcycle, I learned it was FAR from waterproof.
The fit is athletic and looks great on. The sleeves have a small cuff, but I like this way better than a large cuff with Velcro seen on many other jackets. The sleeves are a little thin but it sure beats a big bulky coat.
I'm looking at the REI Rauk jacket as an under layer for when the mercury really dips down. Because both jackets are athletic and not bulky I think I will get the same level of warmth maybe better compared to a tri-climate jacket for 2 times the price.
Also I really like that the hood zips off and there is also a flap on the jacket that hides the zipper.
Go to REI and try it on! I love this jacket! I expect to get many many years of use out of this mid-weight jacket.

Comments about REI Edgewood Travel Coat - Men's:
My wife got me this jacket for our anniversary, and I must admit that I might not have tried it otherwise. This jacket wouldn't have been my first choice because it isn't insulated and a little stiffer than a soft-shell. I am glad that I tried this jacket because it is an excellent outer layer. Pair this jacket with an insulation layer like a 200+ gram fleece, down jacket, or synthetic insulation and you can wear this jacket all winter long. It is much more waterproof than I expected, tested in the shower with great results. The pocket configuration is well thought out, and there are several pockets inside the jacket including a pass-through port to run headphones. The only reason I gave this jacket 4 stars instead of 5 is the flap that covers the front zipper doesn't secure to the jacket, it simply folds over the zipper. Some velcro or snaps would do just fine. All in all this jacket is a winner. It's comfortable with just a t-shirt underneath, or it can be layered for a really good winter jacket. REI did a good job with this jacket.

Comments about REI Edgewood Travel Coat - Men's:
This is a fantastic outer layer. I have had this jacket for 2 years now, and I've taken it hiking and camping in all four seasons. I've taken it on many showshoe excursions. And I took this jacket on a 4 day canoo trip in Montana where the average temperature was about 45 F and it poured rain for the first 3 days. I was dry and warm the whole time, mostly with a thin long sleeved synthetic shirt, a fleece vest, and this jacket. The cuffs on the sleeves create an excellent seal and your body heat is trapped very efficiently. In the rain I have never had my under layers get wet.
The only thing that sometimes bugs me is that is has no pit zippers - so sometimes it's a little warmer than I'd like.

I like this jacket a lot -- it keeps me dry on my bike excursions, pretty warm, and stops out the wind and water. I think it even looks good as a standalone jacket, and I like the removable hood.
The cuffs are also double-closed, with a stretchy bit around the wrist, to keep out wind. It works well with gloves, also, creating an effective wind barrier. The hood fits well, as well.
My only complaint is the inner arm material. If it was something fuzzy like the neck, it would feel warm -- as it is, the bare nylon on short sleeves feels much cooler than I know it is (eg, pained ears but only slightly-too-cool arms). It's a minor detail that would really flesh out this jacket, and the only thing that I would change.

Comments about REI Edgewood Travel Coat - Men's:
With the two dark colors of the coat, i thought it was a winter coat. But not, the large size is tight and the XL is way to big on me. Wore it on a 40degree walk at night with a sweatshirt and it just barely kept me warm, otherwise its a stylish and well made coat. REI should add some light colors to this coat, which would made this a perfect early spring coat

I bought this jacket as a Christmas gift for my husband to use on our future hiking and camping trips and in great anticipation of our anniversary trip to Big Bend. He has been thrilled with the quality of this jacket for casual everyday wear and is looking forward to getting in some great hikes soon.

I love the look and the fit. I miss pit zips and adjustable cuffs, but not the extra weight they bring. My arms are a little on the short side, but if I really needed it, I could attach some rip and stick to the cuffs. Not designed to be a cold weather coat, so you'd need to add a layer underneath to be comfortable in really cold weather. I'm looking forward to using it this spring to see how it will perform in the humid Southland.

I bought this jacket for all around use and it hasn't disappointed. For cold weather the jacket by itself is a bit thin, but if you layer its perfect. The jacket is very water proof, pour a cup of water and watch it bead up and run off. I love the section of pockets. On top of all this I have received numerous complements on the jacket (peacoat).

Comments about REI Edgewood Travel Coat - Men's:
I found this coat tucked away in the sea of men's jackets at the Tucson REI, but I am extremely glad I did. I was immediately drawn to its unique olive'ish color and the craftsmanship of the coat. I have used it both as a hiking jacket, and for an evening casual jacket when the Arizona night air was a bit too cold for my liking. It's definitely an eye catcher, and surprisingly enough, hikers will notice it before anyone else and give compliments right away. I highly reccomend this jacket for every day use as well as to keep out the elements during any outdoors adventure, less the extreme winter hikes, as it's doesn't have much of a lining for snow.
