Comments about REI Elk Ridge Soft-Shell Jacket - Men's:
This jacket has been great so far, I absolutely love it. I can layer up and play in the snow, or just wear a t-shirt with it and it still fits great. Slim fitting for us average 5'10" athletic type guys. Do make sure you size down; normally I wear size medium everything, but this jacket I wear a size small and it fits great. I do wish the price was a little better, but it's REI so I can't really complain, I'll just get a new one if this one fails me.

Comments about REI Elk Ridge Soft-Shell Jacket - Men's:
i ski in the midatlantic and wanted a jacket that was not bulky but would keep me dry and keep the wind off of me. I wear 2 thin layers under this jacket on colder days and i am warm as well. has a comfortable fleece lining that seems to lock in the warmth. also has a mp3 player pocket on the chest with a slit to run your headphones through the inside. very convenient! i also kept my cellphone in one of the side pockets and even after a few spills it was completely dry... I am a true xxl guy @ about 6'1 250 and bought this jacket in xxl.this jacket fits comfotorably and is not to snug as some other brands are. Love this jacket and was exactly what i was looking for.

Comments about REI Elk Ridge Soft-Shell Jacket - Men's:
I have had some form of an REI soft shell for over 5 years now and I wear them ALL the time. This one is my favorite. Whether its fall, winter, spring, raining, or a cool summer night this jacket will not disappoint. You never need to check the weather because its a light jacket that breaths but also has some good waterproofing if it starts to rain. The hood is a great addition if its raining or you forgot your hat while biking home. Throw a sweatshirt on underneath and its a great winter jacket. I use it all the time biking to class at MSU during all seasons, and i also use it for backpacking, snow skiing or cross country skiing. Its the PERFECT all around jacket and a MUST have.
The only complaint i have is that you have to treat with water proofing after about a year or 2 and its a bit bulky in the back pack where down comes in handy, but it makes up for it for being waterproof.
GET IT!!!

Comments about REI Elk Ridge Soft-Shell Jacket - Men's:
This is a well designed quality softshell at a great price--even better value if you can get it when it is on sale! I had been looking for a hooded softshell for a long time. Most of the choices available were over the $200 to $400 price range for all the features, material, and quality that I needed.
This jacket has an adjustable lined hood with a visor, zippered hand warmer pockets and chest pocket, gloves/water bottle pocket on both sides of interior, mesh venting in pockets(so pit zips are not needed), and dual adjustable waist cords.
The best features are the fit and the performance. I can easily layer a 200 weight fleece vest or a Primaloft vest UNDER the jacket, without the need to go a size up. I normally wear an XXL/Tall in other brands. I got an XXL for this jacket and it fits great. It is windproof, warm, and sheds wet snow and drizzle very well.
My only complaint would be the colors available are limited. I got the black/granite which is nice. But I would have wanted an all black jacket and would buy another one if offered in an olive green (like a military shade of green-NOT the terrible Okra colored green now offered). If the colors become better in the future, I will buy one for my son at college. Also-why not make a women's model in a nice blue or maroon color? Then I would get one for my wife and 2 daughters as well!

Comments about REI Elk Ridge Soft-Shell Jacket - Men's:
I'm 6' 2" 115 lbs and the Elk Ridge fits me very nicely. Its long enough and fits without being too snug. I chose this jacket over the North Face Windstopper model since the 2007 Gear of the Year jacket fit a little small on me. The cool color green also played in my decision in purchasing the REI Elk Ridge.
I haven't had the opportunity to test this jacket to its full potential yet since its still August w/ temps hovering in the 90s, but I can't wait to see how it protects me from the forces of Mother Nature.
