Comments about REI Muir Woods Jacket - Men's:
This looks a bit better than the average basic fleece. I bought it for my husband and after it was worn around the house for a couple of days there was a split at the elbow - presumably the fabric had a fault because it didn't catch on anything. We exchanged it, but only the size bigger was available and although this was fine for a week it was too big to fit comfortably under a ski jacket so we returned it. Because I have some doubts about the quality, the rating is only 3 stars. Also - it attracted dust and fluff far too easily. At a cheaper price this wouldn't be a problem.

Comments about REI Muir Woods Jacket - Men's:
This is a very nice fleece and my favorite now out of the vests and 1 long sleeve I own. The fit is amazing as well as the comfort. Being on clearance makes this even a better deal.
I cannot stop hoping for cold weather so I can get more use out of this jacket.

Comments about REI Muir Woods Jacket - Men's:
I've had this fleece for about a year and a half now. It's exceptionally durable with a tough lining around the waist and cuffs, creating a great fit and not allowing it to stretch over time. No disrespect to previous reviewers, but this product says nothing being windproof, and it isn't. However, while it is not waterproof (even though we all have different ideas for the term), it IS water-resistant. If you are around town, a casual sprinkle or light rain really does nothing. You may feel the jacket be a little heavier, but it carries a Polartec fabric, which makes it somewhat between a cotton sweatshirt and a true rain jacket. fHiking and backpacking can be great with it. It's not really "packable," as it is relatively bulky, but I usually just tie it to the outside of my pack and then use it at night. All in all, it's a great fleece jacket that can look casual for around town, be used outdoors, and still maintain a great composure over time. Well done by REI.

Comments about REI Muir Woods Jacket - Men's:
Great fit for my medium build. I am 5'9' 179lbs, 41" chest, 33" waist, with wide Welsh shoulders, and this jacket fits perfectly. I'm using it as a primary hiking/around town jacket when it's colder/foggy in San Francisco and surrounding Bay area. Combined with the REI eVent shell, it's perfect for just about anything. Adding a smartwool layer and/or silk tshirt, Tahoe cold will probably be do-able...I run hot BTW, so this jacket is perfect. The exterior texture looks great, and lack of huge blatent labeling is a huge+ for me. Looks great around town with a kilt or shorts or jeans.

Comments about REI Muir Woods Jacket - Men's:
I would love to buy the Muir Woods fleece IF ONLY it came in a 1/4 zip style. The grid check exterior is extremely durable and the shearling style fleece interior make it very warm for the light weight (somewhere between 100 and 200 polyester fleece weight). REI carried (and I purchased) just such a 1/4 zip 3 to 4 years ago (the North Face SDS 1/4 zip obviously manufactured identical to the REI Muir Woods).

Comments about REI Muir Woods Jacket - Men's:
Mine is black. It's my go-to jacket for around town during the mild California "cold" season and still looks and feels good after four years. I haven't roughed it up too much in the wild, nor washed it alot, so that might have helped it persevere so well. A proper-fitting jacket is often hard for me to find, but this works very well on my 6'2" and slender frame. Overall, it's comfortable, stylish enough, warm enough, versatile and the price is right.

Comments about REI Muir Woods Jacket - Men's:
First, others' comments about how terrible this jacket is because it's not windproof show they did not know what they're buying. This is a perfect fleece jacket; I didn't need a windproof fleece, otherwise I would have purchased Polartec Windbloc fleece. Enough on that. This fleece feels substantial and has a nice, thicker nap on the indside. The sleeves are a tad more constricting than other fleece jackets I have, but they are all cut to resemble jackets for the Sta-Puft Marshmallow Man. This jacket fits me quite well (5'11 @ 170lbs). I like that the collar is not very tall--it doesn't rub annoyingly on my chin. The sleeves aren't too long, but they're certainly not too short--I can extend my arms and maintain coverage. I picked this up on clearance for [$] and am very pleased. REI, once again, is fantastic.

Comments about REI Muir Woods Jacket - Men's:
Having recently purchased this jacket, I am hoping that REI finds a new designer. I am terribly disappointed.
As for the positive aspects, it is a warm jacket – a jacket that one might enjoy wearing every cool day.
As a practical matter, however, the jacket is difficult to wear. A caveat – if you are over 6'2", with long slender arms and a slight build, this jacket will be perfect for you. Otherwise, if you fit within the other 90% of the population, this jacket will be problematic. The sleeves are so tight that getting the jacket on is a challenge unless you are wearing no shirt underneath. As others noted, the sleeves are so long that one should note the above height restriction.
Additionally, the body size is inconsistent with sizes offered by other clothing companies. Mine ran at least one size too small.
As for the fabric, it is warm and has a pleasing appearance. Unfortunately, the combination of fabric and appearance creates a lint collector to a degree that I have found in no other fleece product.

Comments about REI Muir Woods Jacket - Men's:
This jacket is pretty awesome. I'm 6'1 180lbs and the medium fits me like a glove. I wear this jacket everywhere, it's my go-to jacket. It keeps me warm, and is reasonably breathable. However, I have to say that this jacket just doesn't stop the wind, and I don't want to deal with a fleece that needs a shell. To it's credit, it's not advertised as windproof, but I think it should be a little more resistant.
In short, if you're looking for a great fleece layer or something to keep you warm under a shell, this is your jacket. I like it a lot, but I'll be exchanging mine for an REI Windbrake.
