I bought this coat the day before leaving for Amsterdam in March. The city was GREAT, but the weather was miserable--40's and drizzly/rainy. We rented bikes for transportation and during the entire week, I was the only one in our party of 3 who remained warm and dry. One day we were caught in a driving rain while lost, biking for 45 minutes. My legs from my thighs down (where this coat didn't cover) were drenched and freezing, but all the areas covered by this miracle coat were dry as a bone and pretty well insulated. Plus the fit is flattering and the coat, versatile. LOVE this coat! Wish it were available for men so I could get it for my husband, too! I'm normally a size 12/14 on top and bought an xl. Have room for a light weight sweater underneath.

I love the fabric used for this jacket, the style and cut is really flattering, although the sleeves could be narrower. The only thing I don't like about it is that the hood is attached permanently, I hope they make the hood detachable next year. Other than that, it's a great jacket.

I work as a photographer/videographer and need all-season clothing that's easy to layer, that doesn't rustle or make noise as I move because all that swishing ends up on my soundtracks. Not good! This jacket is quiet, which means I can also go for a walk in the woods and stand a better chance of getting a good photo of something without my clothing scaring it away!
It keeps the wind out and is somewhat rain resistant. A really good, flexible, moves-with-you kind of top layer. The size and cut seems more European as I would normally buy small or medium, and I bought large in this jacket.

I bought this for a trip to Ireland in October. This coat looked stylish in all of my photos, the front darts on the coat are very slimming. There isn't a lot of extra bulk in this coat. I am 5'1 and 115 lbs and the XS was perfect for me. This coat is perfect for travel in 50 degree weather. The inside is soft so it doesn't feel like you are wearing a plastic garbage bag. Great job REI!

Love this Hillsdale coat. I work in a highly professional environment and travel around the city most days. I needed a light weight longer coat that keeps the cold Chicago wind, rain & snow away from me, rather than fight the umbrella. This coat does it all. Keeps the fall rain and wind out and will be perfect for those above 30 degree days and since I've bought it - I've yet to open an umbrella!
It has some stretch and is moveable with you, no shine to fabric so it does not look too casual. Comfort & Function & Good Looks all in one! The REI brand runs a tad larger and it fit me perfect! Used my 20% membership and got what I considered a treat for myself - now I call it an essential - Love it!

I saw this coat on the ads. Tried it at a store and loved it instantly. Wore it to work then 3 more people (with very different body shapes from mine) bought one, too! Casual to wear with jeans, yet the slight cinch in the design gives just enough dressy-ness, too. It's not heavyweight, so I bought one size bigger. That way, I can wear something warm and thick underneath in middle of winter in Pacific Northwest.

I bought this jacket for a New Year's Eve trip in Lake Tahoe. The weather was freezing (don't know exact temperature range). I layered myself with a bunch of random clothes and topped it off with this jacket. This jacket definitely helped to keep the chill out. I also love that this jacket is waterproof (someone spilled beer on me and it just slid off); though I haven't tried it out in the rain yet. This jacket is definitely fit for both outdoors and casual wear; I also wear it to the office as well.
My two disappointments is that the hood is not detachable and the sleeves have too much room in them.

I was given a gift that I got to pick out myself! As soon as I put this coat on I was sold. It doesnt feel like a raincoat. Its soft both inside and out. Moves and stretches. And best of all is it doesnt LOOK like a rain coat! It's hard to find something functional that doean't look like you are wearing a garbage bag. The hood covers your whole head. I'm 5'6 and it hits me mid theigh closer to my knees. It doesnt crinkle or wrinkle! and it's surprisingly warm for how thin it is (it has a thin fleece layer inside). I'm 5'6 125 lbs and I got a XS. Still has room for a sweater under it (but I have a small bust). It is perfect for the rainy San Francisco winters.

I needed a coat that would carry me through potentially cold and/or rainy days in Budapest, in Spring, strictly as a tourist. Not knowing whether I'd be hit with cold, cool, or warm weather, this coat was perfect in that it allowed me to layer when a bit cooler outside, but feel comfortable (and not too hot) as the weather warmed up, too. I added a multi-colored scarf to bring the style quotient up, and also as extra protection against chilly weather. I was very happy with the coat's performance and the way it looked. I bought it in a Small, which worked well for me, a size 6. Not too snug and not too loose. Really appreciate the feminine shape. Also, it is great with jeans but can be dressed up a bit, so the flexibility when traveling was key for me.
