Comments about Life Gear Waterproof Glow Stick:
It seems 90% of flashlights have a button that can turn on accidentally when packed. So why was I foolish enough to buy this one? Because all other aspects looked good and I tried to make a little tube that protected the switch. Apparently that did not work - found it dead after 4 months in the emergency kit. Spare batteries, supplied, were also dead.
I'd like to give this company the benefit of the doubt. I have the white version of this light (not this red one) which had pretty good reviews, primarily for children's use. Currently I do not see that white version or any reviews on the red one, on the REI site. Maybe the white one was discontinued(?) My first unit, from REI store, was defective, did not provide all the light modes promised. The company, Life+Gear sent me a new one immediately. Spare batteries dead? Maybe I somehow damaged them trying to use a volt-meter/ battery tester, but they were reading zero and did not light the light.
I have another Life+Gear AA light which has been fine. I wanted this Glow light to be available for kayak emergencies, deep in a very dry bag, where it never got wet (it's waterproof anyway). This product might be ok for casual fun, or maybe you could keep a number of them in your kit so some might work.
I realize there are cases where one customer just has bad luck with an otherwise successful product, but I can only tell you this experience of mine. I recommend against trusting this light for anything serious.

We have 4 that we use for night diving - SCUBA - these are great for tying to your tank, set them on glow or flash - you can then keep track of each other. They will turn on in your bag in route... We open them up, take the mechanism out, wrap them in tissue, and put them in a zip lock bag. Reassemble them before use. Not dependable enough for a primary light, but a really nice convenience. They are also useful for finding your way around a dark hotel room, looking for stuff in your dive bag, etc. They turn on too easy to be relied on for any serious purpose. We have had them down to about 90 feet w/ good results. They want a lot ($12.00) to ship those "free" batteries. Go to [@] and get a much better deal (10 for $2.00 and free shipping).
