I have these in the black/charcoal color and I love them. They are not bulky but are warm. I wear them to work with a dress, tights and boots and up in the hills hiking and snowshoeing. I have had them about a year and they are not wearing out at all.

Of the three smartwool sock styles I bought at REI, these are my second favorite. I love the bright colors, and they stay up on my calves well. They don't make my feet sweat, and even after wearing them all day in tall dress boots (which included some walking), my feet didn't stink! Yeah! The heels do have some tiny pills forming after one wear, and I'm curious to see how long they last. In any case, I think they are well-deserving of their unique niche in my sock drawer.

I LOVE my other SmartWool socks so I purchased 3 pair of these knee socks at one time as they were on sale and the two reviews were positive. Each pair were down around my ankles within an hour of putting them on. I have long legs and they were too long for me and they're difficult to get on. I am returning them.
