Extremely well made knife. This is my second Benchmade and I was not at all surprised with the quality. The blade is made of exceptional quality steel and the handle is of equal quality. I have beaten the hell out of this knife and the paint on the pocket clip is the only visible sign of age. The blade stays sharp and is relatively easy to sharpen. The only downside, if it is a downside, is the fact that the Axis locking mechanism tends to collect dust and grime, but with a Q Tip, it's easy to clean. Overall, very satisfied with this knife. American made is the way to go. If you are buying a knife and want a quality larger sized folder that is durable as hell, buy the Barrage. And the reviewer whose locking mechanism failed to function correctly must've received a lemon, because there is no way a Benchmade would fail like that. Between REI and Benchmade, I'm confident that the issue was taken care of, as both companies have the best customer service available today. Buying a Benchmade from REI is one of the best decisions one could make.

This knife is absolutely fantastic I have looked at may different benchmade knives and have come to the conclusion that this one would best fit my EDC (everyday carry) needs. After looking at some of the auto knives that benchmade makes the assist blade makes more sense for three main reasons, one its faster and easer to open than an auto knife, two its much safer to carry and open than an auto, and third you dont have to worry about all the [...] regulations that different citys place on auto knives. I hope this help some of you choose this great knife....

Love the knife. Feels great in hand but within a day the blade refused to open all the way. Seems to be a problem with the spring. I am surprised that a Benchmade knife would fail so quickly and am hoping that this is just a fluke.

Always go to a store to buy a knife, test it out. Heard that the spring has problems on these models. [...] Benchmade has a great warranty; lifetime. If you look at all the materials that were put in to create this knife.. you'll see its just made for any condition. 154CM is a great steel, strong, keeps its edge and is expensive. The grip. Made out of Valox plastic which is made of thermoplastic polyester resins are semi-crystalline... and is resistant to a variety of chemicals including aliphatic hydrocarbons, petrol, oils and greases, dilute acids and bases, detergents and most aqueous salt solutions. (did some research on the internet).Overall great knife. Cant say anything bad about it, look forward to taking it on my next camping trip, if this snow ever goes away.

I decided to expand my benchmade collection and landed on the Barrage. This knife lived up to benchmade's reputation. In all honesty its a little scary at first. The force with which the nitrous assist shot out the blade was intimidating at first but you learn to love it. This is a bigger knife and would be a little much for every day use but for hiking camping etc it seems to be the perfect knife.
