Comments about The North Face Windwall 1 Fleece Jacket - Men's:
I really wanted to like the Windwall but it's just not a good jacket for anything but lounging around in a blustery town.
Collar too short: The interior windwall fabric is great at blocking wind, but if the temperature is cold enough you'll feel the wind regardless due to the collar being inadequately short, wind flies right down your neck. I have a few other North Face jackets and fleeces and their collars are at least an inch if not three inches taller, which is much more effective at protecting your neck and keeping you warm. Even if you have this zipped up all the way your neck will freeze and wind finds its way down your torso where it blows around in the excessively baggy fit.
Not durable: I made the mistake of taking it hiking while wearing a pack. The straps of the backpack completely wore down the fleece material after just one day hike, you can see wide lines from where the chafe of the straps wore away the fabric and are starting to expose the underlying membrane. The fabric on a cheap t-shirt holds up better to a backpack.
Ideal uses? If you're on the heavier set side and just want a name-brand wind blocker to wear around a windy coastal town on mild temperature days, this might be perfect for you.
The bottom line: do not buy this with any anticipation of it being durable activewear, it's not durable, and it's not activewear.

Comments about The North Face Windwall 1 Fleece Jacket - Men's:
I bought this jacket off the sale rack for a trip to climb Kilimanjaro. What a great piece of gear. I wore it just about every day on the mountain including summit night. It was comfortable and warm and after some heavy abuse looked great after washing. It's my everyday jacket now.

Comments about The North Face Windwall 1 Fleece Jacket - Men's:
I love this jacket so much, I bought two more...
This is a great all-around jacket for casual wear, day hiking, and general camp wear. My only complaint is the Black one I ordered is not true Black. It is a very Dark Grey.
Nonetheless, it is a great jacket.

Comments about The North Face Windwall 1 Fleece Jacket - Men's:
my first the northface jacket -- see a lot of people wearing them - chose to get this with my dividend check... really bad idea - wore it to a softball practice 50° and a little wind and almost froze - returned for another jacket and got an rei jacket -- it is perfect and cheaper - will not follow the herd and buy the northface in the future....

Comments about The North Face Windwall 1 Fleece Jacket - Men's:
I own a lot of stuff from TNF, unfortunately everything I've purchased in the last 3 or 4 years has left a lot to be desired as far as durabilty goes. This is my 3rd Windwall product and they've all had the same problem, the color fades within 2 months of using them an average of 2 to 3 times per week, and the high wear areas, elbows mainly, also wear out very quickly. Definitely not worth the price.
Service and delivery comments:
REI service .... top notch, as always.

Comments about The North Face Windwall 1 Fleece Jacket - Men's:
I use this jacket for both daily work-week use and for hiking. In my opinion, it has the best balance between wind blockage and breathability. Most "breathable" jackets are not nearly as breathable as they advertise--and perspiration builds up as a result. This one has a great balance --blocks the wind, but allows perspiration to escape and keeps you dry. If you are hiking, it is usually plenty warm, but also makes a great layering piece under a hard shell. It's a true classic.
That said, here's what I don't like about it: I have two of these and the new one has a microfleece lining that makes it warmer, but more difficult to put on/take off. It also doesn't breathe quite as well as the old one. The old one had the Windwall mesh layer bare on the inside and it was super easy to slide it over clothing. The wrists are too tight--again, I think this was an effort to make it warmer, but I have very thin wrists and it's a bit tight. The old ones fit better. Finally, I wish they made a version of this that had side pockets that were made to fit with a hip belt from a backpack.
Even with these flaws, this is still the most versatile jacket I own and I use it more than any other jacket.

I wear this every day. The name fits well... heavy wind, no problem.

Comments about The North Face Windwall 1 Fleece Jacket - Men's:
Pros: This is a great all around jacket- the fleece gives it comfortable warmth, while the WindWall layer makes it wind-resistant. The black version has a stylish, laid back look that you can wear in the woods or on the street.
Cons:The WindWall layer makes it feel like there's a thin layer of plastic between the fleece layers, which is a bit odd (the jacket feels a slight bit stiff).

Comments about The North Face Windwall 1 Fleece Jacket - Men's:
This is NOT windproof! It IS WIND RESISTANT, which is its strength. I use this jacket for winter bike riding (Minneapolis climate). When biking staying warm is not as much of a problem controling perspiration. The small componet of air transport really keeps you dry. The faster you ride the harder you work the more air flows through. Just what you need for winter bike riding. It may work well for other arobic winter activities like X Country sking but I don't have direct experience.

Comments about The North Face Windwall 1 Fleece Jacket - Men's:
This cuts the wind okay, but it just isn't very warm. My cheapo fleece packs smaller and is warmer. I wear this around town but I'll stick to a warmer fleece and a shell to take camping.
