Comments about The North Face Recon Pack - Women's:
My wife and I used this bag for our stuff when we went canoeing. Didn't have a lot, some Bibles, snacks, a school book. Our canoe tipped over and this pack was submerged for a good 10 seconds. I hadn't thought about our Bibles being in there because I was busy wrangling the canoe downstream. I got up to my wife and she said her schoolbook had a few wet spots on it, but everything else was bone dry.
I know it says water resistant, but this pack did really well for being submerged.
As for the laptop pocket, it fits my 15 inch Macbook Pro perfectly.
I'm definitely going to be buying the mens version of this pack for myself with the dividend I get back from REI!

Comments about The North Face Recon Pack - Women's:
This is my all-around bag. I use it everyday for school, take it on day hikes, and can usually fit enough in it to take only one bag on flights and as a carry on. The pack has an interesting design in that it tapers towards the top, which I think contributes to its ability to carry weight well. I had two of this same pack years back and returned both after a year b/c the front zipper on the small pocket went out. The current bag I have had for 3 or so years and I love it. It is comfortable, if you roll clothes you can carry a lot of stuff, and as I said before it really carries weight well. The outside mesh pocket is also nice b/c you can throw all kind of different stuff in it. Great material as well. I beat this thing up all the time and have had no tears or zipper problems. Inside pocket for laptop does not extend to the bottom of the bag, so when you set the bag down, your computer doesn't hit the floor. Highly recommend.

Comments about The North Face Recon Pack - Women's:
I am very particular about my backpacks, and I searched EVERYWHERE for the perfect combination of versatility, large capacity, small footprint, comfort, style, and durability. I was not totally convinced that this bag would meet my expectations in each of those areas when I bought it, but I have been using it for about 6 months now, and it's the best backpack I have ever owned.
I use it all day every day for school, work, etc., and have also used it for trips and carrying on planes. There is room for the many things I need to carry with me, and then some. The main pocket is super, super roomy even though it doesn't look like it would be. I can carry 2 laptops plus books and notebooks and still have plenty of room.
The additional outer pocket is HUGE and has a built in organizer with multiple pockets, one with a zipper. I only use some of the organizer pockets, but they're nice to have. I also love the external access outer pocket on the very front. It's perfect for my cell phone and a pack of gum.
I didn't think I would use the large mesh pocket on the front for fear of losing things, but that has now become one of my favorite features. It's so nice to drop in my laptop charger or my lunch bag and have it easily accessible. The mesh is deep and sturdy, and the clip at the top means nothing is going to get lost.
The padded adjustable shoulder straps are super comfortable and are clearly designed for a female frame. I have several men's North Face backpacks and never thought much about the straps being larger, but now that I have this backpack I am so much more comfortable.
The only thing I don't like is the clip strap for the interior laptop sleeve. I never use it, so it's just in the way for me. Overall not a big deal at all. Otherwise there is nothing I don't like about this backpack.
Like most products from The North Face, this backpack is made of a durable material and has sturdy, forgiving zippers. My backpack is a light color, and despite being heavily used and tossed around since I got it, it still looks like brand new.

Comments about The North Face Recon Pack - Women's:
My back pack is like a prosthetic, part of my body, and I consider this to be the best all purpose day pack for everything -- campus, shopping, day hikes, etc. My only complaint is its hot back panel which feels like a sponge on summer days. If it featured an Osprey-like harness/hipbelt, it would be perfect.

Comments about The North Face Recon Pack - Women's:
After searching high and low for a backpack to replace the school/work pack that I had worn just about to shreds, I finally settled on the Recon. Although slightly apprehensive at first because I was not sure that it would fit my gear, the main pocket is deceptively large and is able to hold everything that I need. The mesh pocket on the outside is perfect for holding things you want to put away yet keep handy - gloves, rain pants, light jackets. The little zipper compartment on the front is just the right size for stashing keys and other small items - no need to go digging around a larger pocket to find them.
My only "complaint" is that the laptop compartment wastes space when not in use - I wish there was some way for it to be removable or that the backpack was available without it - but I have taken to slipping my softcover books in there and it keeps them from being damaged.

Great construction. Definitely liked the extra padding on this women's version.
