Comments about REI Trail Gaiters:
I love these gaiters. I went snowshoeing and they preformed wonderfully. They have a wide velcro strip up the from that is very secure. They have a heavy rubber strap that goes under the arch of your boot instead of string. Set the strap once and you'll never have to set it again. Just slip your heal into the strap, secure the clip into your boot laces and velcro up the front. Cinch up the strap around the top of your calf and you're ready to go. I'm 6'3", these gaiters are long enough to come to the top of my calf just below my knee, so they stay in place. These will be great in the spring when there is dew on the brush along the trail. It will be nice to keep the bottom of my pant legs dry and clean. They'll also be great to wear with shorts for added protection, then remove easily when the day warms up and the dew disappears. Great price. Buy a pair, you'll be a happy hiker!

Comments about REI Trail Gaiters:
This was my first pair of gators and they worked like a charm. I just went through one of the worst winter storms of record in the midwest. I'm a police officer and had to travel through waist deep snow around houses and vehicles. These gators worked great in the deep snow. They kept the snow out of my boots and kept my pants dry. I had these on for 10 hours and I didn't have an issue.

Comments about REI Trail Gaiters:
These gaiters worked well for me in the mountains of central Idaho: they kept me dry during surprise rain showers and protected my calves from many scraping bushes, branches and desert scrub (I usually wore them with shorts). They were also really easy to put on and adjust to my size, and well priced to boot.
The only drawbacks with them were that: 1) they didn't breathe, so my legs ended up a little humid/muggy in warm temperatures or after a strenuous hike, but that is pretty much to be expected with something completely waterproof; 2) the rubber straps that go under the insteps of my boots wore out completely, and I had to bring the gaiters in to be replaced. I used these gaiters (hard) for about 5 weeks on trails, bushwhacking, on snow and also over a lot of bare, tough rock (like limestone, which seemed to particularly tear the reinforced rubber). I've had the replacement pair for several years now without the same problems (though without the same abuse, either).
Regardless, most people probably won't use them like I did and they work really well otherwise. I expect my current pair to last a long time, keeping me dry and scrape free.

Comments about REI Trail Gaiters:
I used these for a weekend working in the snow, using snow cats, snomobiles, and the like. These helped keep the snow out of my boots which is the whole reason I got them, so that i could walk around and not have to worry about my ankles getting frozen.
Service and delivery comments:
Delivery was great, right on time and no complaints!

Comments about REI Trail Gaiters:
just bought these gaiters for a long weekend of snowshoeing and climbing. they held up great, fastened to my boots well, and kept snow out really well. we were in everything to packed slush to waist deep holes and they got the job done. the fit is good, although, i wear the small/medium... the strap around the top of the gaiter did not fit my leg very tight without pants on. my legs aren't exactly bulky so im not surprised. with pants on they fit perfect. if they had a small and a medium rather than a s/m size, that would be fixed. but i have no intention of returning these as i am very happy with the performance. i will add to those of you shopping, if you only want gaiters for scree and rock, consider something like the trail running gaiters. the full size get really warm when its hot. but not a problem in snow.

Comments about REI Trail Gaiters:
I have used these for hiking as well as snowshoeing. I stayed dry in the snow and no rocks or debris worked its way in my boots while hiking. They are easy to put on and take off. Once sized, the velcro is all that is needed to put them on. This is my second pair of gaiters and these are by far the best.

Comments about REI Trail Gaiters:
These do exactly what you would want them to do.
I do not engage in a lot of snowsports, but these were perfect for light hiking through the snow and allowed me to use my trail shoes in the winter in lieu of buying winter boots for a week long trip to Yellowstone NP.
They are a little small for folks with thick legs, but otherwise work perfectly.
My pants never got wet.

Comments about REI Trail Gaiters:
My main complaint is with the plastic strap that goes under the boot. My strap wore out quickly and there is no way to easily replace the strap without getting out a heavy duty sewing machine! The strap is sewn into the gator, as opposed to being laced through grommets. If lacers had been used, a worn-out lacer could then be more easily replaced than a sewn-in plastic strap.
I used these gators for protection during lawn manintenence while wearing running shoes. I would imagine that the strap would have lasted a little longer if I wore boots with a more pronounced heel so that the strap did not come in contact with the ground so much.

Comments about REI Trail Gaiters:
I used these snowshoe backpacking a few weeks ago and they did great. 8 hours trudging along in the snow over the weekend, no complaints. Didn't have a problem putting them on over frozen boots with gloves on. The fabric seems pretty durable, I can't see any signs of wear from their first use.
I don't know why REI makes a winter version of these. I can't tell what the difference is, and these did great anyway.

Comments about REI Trail Gaiters:
These REI trail gaiters are better than I anticipated. I've worn these gaiters on a few winter hikes with plenty of snow and they never let me down. Eventhough they dont have a waterproof/breathable membrane these gaiters kept me dry in snow depths from a foot to a foot and a half, on a six hour hike.
Unless you're gonna do a serious climb and want peace of mind, I would opt for this cheaper, yet reliable, option.
Bottom line, they keep debris and snow out.
