The Outdoor Research PL 400 gloves feature double-layer fleece to protect hands in the backcountry and can be worn as liner gloves under waterproof shell (sold separately).

The gloves are great, they have been quite useful and keep my hands very warm. I had to travel on business to Great Lakes, IL, most days here are under 30 with wind chill can get as cold as 10 degrees and my hands have not once been cold when wearing the gloves. Only downside is the sticky on the fingers for screen touch doesn't work on my Blackberry or I-Phone but it does work on my Tom Tom, so honestly that is the most important! :)

The gloves keep my hands warm and dry. There is no problem with my hands sweating.
The only issue I have is with the silicone grips on the fingertips. I have only had the gloves for about a month. I use them for driving and general wear but the grips on the fingertips are already starting to come off.

I use these by themselves or as liners when it's wet or very cold. Though they are snug and thin enough to manipulate a camera (as another reviewer noted), they are amazingly wind resistant. I took a short 30 minute bike ride in single digit wind chill a few mornings ago wearing these without shells - my fingers got a little cold, but not at all numb. Most versatile gloves I've owned.

Following the other reviews I purchased these gloves. I walk the beach in the mornings and take occasional day outings when the wind and temperatures are a challenge for my extremities. For me these gloves resist wind and definately keep my hands warm. One day it rained and the gloves stayed dry, although I don't think they were advertised as water resistant. They are snug but not too tight and flexible enough at the finger tips to pick up small objects. I'm not a professional glove tester so I can't say about other gloves but I'd definately choose these again.

I got these gloves last winter. I use them for a range of activities, from biking and walking in town to winter hiking in the mountains. Thicker than most liners, they provide significant warmth on their own.
Some concrete but approximate numbers: They are perfect on their own at 40F. As liners at 10F with 20mph winds they provide comfort for at least 1 minute while dealing with zippers or other gear.
Pair them with slightly larger-sized outer gloves/mittens than for thinner liners.
The first layer of rubber grip wears off immediately, but the next layer lasts for the long term and provides grip.

I was looking for a pair of gloves to replace my bulky wind-stopper fleece ones that I was using for running, road biking, and XC Skiing. I was worried that because they weren't wind-stopper that they wouldn't be warm enough, and man was I wrong. When you get moving these gloves let your hands breathe and they wick moisture away, keeping you warm and dry without the bulk. Haven't run into temperatures yet where my hands got cold.

For a recent photography expedition to Antarctica, I brought three pairs of glove "liners" with me. The only pair that kept my hands warm while allowing me to manipulate the controls on my cameras (Pro DSLRs) was this model. They resisted light rain / snow reasonably well, but I typically used a pair of OR's waterproof shell mittens on top of these when in the most extreme conditions (e.g., cutting through waves on Zodiac boats). Wind resistance and insulation was excellent. Highly recommended.
