This pant is far inferior to the discontinued OXT Powerstretch pant due to the thin material and the design. I am cold-natured but do not like to wear lots of layers when I walk/jog. My legs felt cold in 20 degree weather with no wind wearing the Activestretch whereas I feel completely comfortable down into the single digits with high winds wearing the Powerstretch. Still no reflective material on these pants either and the back center pocket is missing. It was replaced with a front key pocket which is probably okay for a key, but not for a cell phone which is always good to have in case of an emergency. On the plus side, I am 5'4" and the length on the size medium was perfect for me. If you are much taller than that, this pant may not work well for you.

I'm so disappointed that REI decided to redesign their previously perfect OXT powerstrectch pants.
This new style is far inferior to the previous style. This new style is a thinner material, yet strangely, doesn't seem to breathe as well. Also, the crotch material pilled up after just one wash & wear. The old style pants didn't do that until after about a year of constant washing & wearing. The new style also isn't as flattering. It's shapeless & the crotch hangs way too low. I thought the old style was extremely flattering & it fit snugly in just the right places without looking tacky or dumpy. And the last flaw on this new style is the newly designed waistband. It has a cinched drawstring which is very unflattering, & the drawstring is on the inside of the waistband so it rubs against my skin in a most irritating way. The old style waistband was wide and flat and smooth with no pinching or rubbing.
Please bring back the old style! Sorry for being such a Debbie Downer, but this new style sucks big time. It's a shame, because the old OXT powerstretch were my absolute favorite pants to wear in the winter & fall. I wish I had bought a dozen pair of them before they brought out this new style.

After being a long-time fan of the former REI Power Stretch pants, these were a HUGE let down. The design is extremely unflattering and shapeless, with excessive bagginess, leaving you to look like a sloppy frump dump. The former design had a thick waistband that sat just below the waist and was fitted down through your thighs, with a hip flair down through the legs. I could feel hip while walking, hiking, cross-country skiing, or even going out and about. This new pant is super thin and and doesn't have the nice thick fleece lining that the former Power Stretch had, so it's not very warm. Lastly, the crotch area pilled before I even washed it, and after ONE wash, they pilled throughout. I'm annoyed that I paid full price [$] for these lame pants. Totally disappointed... Please bring back the old ones!

I agree with the other reviews regarding the change in style. I have 2 pairs of the old style of this pant and absolutely love them (the weight, the fit, comfort, wear ability), wearing them daily in the colder months for walking, hiking and around town. I am really disappointed with the new version, it is lighter weight, the fit is baggy (what is with the new waist band?) and there is no pocket (I don't count the front key pocket, which I think is useless).
Please REI, bring back the old style!!!

I can't believe the negative comments I read about these pants. I bought one pair, loved them, then bought another. Now I've just ordered three more pairs to take me through the winter. It gets chilly in Atlanta, and these pants are exactly the right weight and thickness for our winter climate. I even went back and checked the item # to be sure we were all referencing the same pants. What are you guys thinking? These pants are great!

Love these pants. I have been looking for something I could wear as an alternative to sweat pants, which I hate. These pants are cleanly cut and warm. I live in Montana and work outside. I love slipping into these comfy pants when I get home. They are neat enough to run errands in too.
I think the folks who like the other running pants are looking for something very different from the design of these pants. Maybe REI should bring back those tight running pants they like but please do not discontinue these.

Please bring back the old model! They were literally the perfect winter pants. I won't repeat the other reviews (which I completely agree with), but will add a few things. These pants run larger, but that is not a problem as you can just buy one size down. The drawstring waist is very uncomfortable and must be worn tight to keep the pants from falling down. Bring back the thick, flat, elastic waistband. The pilling is unbelievably bad. I wore my old pants for two years with minimal pilling. These looked like they were 5 years old after two washings and are very rough to the touch. I also get cold in these, even indoors. The old model kept me warm and cozy all winter. In the future, please don't change a perfect product. People would have kept buying that model forever. Like someone else said, I wish I had bought a dozen of them.

These pants were recommended to me by one of the sales person in the store. I was looking for some cold weather pants for running, something to keep me warm. I had my doubts about these pants but found I had no need to worry! These are soft on the inside, lightweight and surprisingly very warm. I wore them to run last night in ca. 25 degree, windy weather and felt very comfortable once I got going and warmed up a bit. My biggest problem running in cold weather is keeping my legs warm enough. Because of the windy weather last night I could have used an extra layer, but once I warmed up I had no trouble running and my legs felt warm enough for me to have a comfortable run. I would definitely recommend these tights, and would definitely buy another pair!

I am new to exercise and needed a pair of pants to wear for a hiking trip to Ireland. These were a good clearance price and seemed good to order. Was not disappointed at all. Incredibly comfortable and wore them from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day. Kept me warm as the weather changed, but was never hot, even in the midst of the uphill cardiac climb. It rained a bit, and my legs stayed completely dry.
Now that I am home, they are my favorite lounge pants that still look "tailored" when I am out running errands.
Cannot say enough good things about them.
