Comments about Gregory Triconi 60 Pack - '09 Closeout:

ok, if you want to stay in the backcountry for 5+ days you better be a minimalist with this backpack because its small (60L) is correct. It does have a heavy frame with large amounts of pads therefore this backpack is EXTREMELY comfortable. everything adjusts to a wide range and if your past that range Gregory will swap parts to fit your size. You may need to buy different size water bottles to fit the pockets for them (being a little small).

Comments about Gregory Triconi 60 Pack - '09 Closeout:

(Tested and compared this pack to the Gregory '09 Z65 and the Osprey '09 Aether 70.)

Dual pockets on the hip belt showed promise, but turned out too small to fit even a compact P&S camera and barely fit my compass and a tube of Burt's!

Front zippered compartment is tapered tube-shaped and quite cramped: it maxed out with a rain jacket and pair of gloves. Top compartment was little better, barely accommodating a fleece.

Front zipper access to main compartment was nice, but it too was a little tight when the pack was all compressed letting you do little more than peek in and grope around blindly.

Pre-formed hip belt left gaps above my hips that only closed when the belt was synched too tight for comfort. But the belt fit my 38+ waist comfortably, so that's a plus for bigger hikers.

The color is a little more brick than Cardinal, or at least not the color of any Cardinal I've ever seen (my state bird is a little more true red than that!).

All that said, this is a well built 60L pack with tons of padding that handled 40 lbs. with aplomb!

Bottom line is: I would recommend the '09 Z65 over this pack, or maybe even the '10 Osprey Aether 70 as Osprey has added zippered access to the main compartment (my main complaint about the '09 Aether 70) and the weight is so much lighter the extra 10L will only be a plus.

Comments about Gregory Triconi 60 Pack - '09 Closeout:

As a minimalist, I seek out the smaller and smaller pack, without sacrificing overall quality build. I found this in the Gregory Triconi 60L pack, and highly recommend this to anyone, from multi-day explorations, to urban backpacking in foreign lands.

Gregory has been (IMO) the top pack manufacturer for years, and have never had an issue with any Gregory pack I've owned. This pack is light, compressible, and extends to carry all you REALLY need.

Some will mention not enough space, but I say just the opposite: You can always do more with less, and in turn enjoy the adventure that much more.

To this quality build at this outlet price is shocking to me - I would've jumped on this but don't foresee needing to replace my current Triconi 60L for many, many years!

Comments about Gregory Triconi 60 Pack - '09 Closeout:

I got this pack a few months ago and have used it on one long weekend trip and one week long trip. The pack performed beautifully on both trips. I found it very easy to adjust; during its first outing with me I moved the shoulder straps to the different anchor point with little effort.

There is a zipper sewn into the pack vertically, next to the back pocket on the side that has the name stitched. This would be a great way to access gear in the pack, but there is no zipper pull and both ends are sewn closed. Is this the way it is supposed to be?

In any case, I love the pack and hope to use it for many years to come.
