Made these with a buddy while doing a quick overnight backpacking trip. We both agreed this meal was one of the better freeze-dried meals available. The meal had great texture, lots of flavor, no excess water (so the eggs were great, not watery). However, I don't know who decided that this was a single serving dish. We are both mid-twenties guys who can eat our fair share on the trail, and we found that we could both make a huge burrito and there was still a little bit left over in the bag. This is definitely a two-serving bag of food.

Not bad, not great, could be improved

While this works okay with a tortilla and some hot sauce, its own texture is disappointing. The flavor doesn't have any major vices. It was generally mushy with a modest flavor. While we shorted the water some on the recipe (and adjusted cook time for altitude while using an insulated wrap) the mixture was still too wet when cooked. Perhaps larger/heartier/crispier chunks for some key components would address that? As a morning meal this works as long as one has hot sauce and wraps (as we did.) I wouldn't recommend it without. I would probably give it a 3.5 out of 5 if I could. I would recommend it to a friend with the reservations noted. We will most likely use it again.

Breakfast Skillet at Lodgepole Overflow Campground

I tried this meal as a Ranger for the Dyrt at Lodgepole Overflow Campground in Lake Alpine. This meal was very easy to make and filling and had a lot of flavor. The salt intake is a bit on the high end, so be aware if you generally avoid high sodium foods. It is an excellent backpacking choices because they are light weight, filled with nutrition and calories. A huge benefit is that it cooks quickly with minimal equipment. All you need is boiling water, a measuring cup (key to perfectly cooked meals) and a utensil to stir and then eat the contents right out of the pouch! Everything heated well though the eggs were a bit runny for my taste. The flavors were good and the meal was very hearty. If weight isn’t a concern I think this would go amazing in a tortilla with some hot sauce as to me it tasted like the inside of a breakfast burrito.

Pretty Good

Picked this one up based on the reviews I read. Tried it this weekend and I have to say, it is pretty good. We used four 8" spinach wraps to make smaller portions. As other reviewers have stated, some salsa or picante sauce would add that extra someting. This was very tasty and not runny. Altough I would recommend that you stir everything well before dishing up. Seems the larger pieces float to the top, leaving the bottom portion more of a well-seasoned sauce type mixture. All in all, pretty decent...and a good way to use the remaining wraps we had from the chicken salad that was very tasty too.

seriously YUMMY!

We LOVE this breakfast! We tried it for the first time during a car camping trip out near Yosemite. We used 2 packages each morning for 5 campers (3 men, 2 women) and we still had a little leftovers each morning which we coaxed 2 of the younger men to finish off. To make this "perfect" breakfast item even better we added grated cheddar cheese, sour cream, and an assortment of salsas. We used the smaller soft taco type of tortillas, and everyone was able to eat 2-3 breakfast burritos each morning. It was so easy to make also, follow directions and give it a couple extra mins of "cook" time.

A great way to start the day.

This was probably the best freeze-dried breakfast I've ever had. Sausage, peppers, onion, hash brown bits and egg? So good. Slap it on a tortilla and call it a meal. We brought some salsa packets along for a little extra flavor, but it even tasted good once the salsa ran out. Not watery like many egg breakfast meals. Also, unless you really like a huge breakfast, this is easily enough food for two people. We would have eaten it the next morning as well if I had brought more along.

awesome!

this is a really good breakfast right here! very good eggs, and the addition of hash browns was genius! I eat this with tortillas and if you have it, hot sauce, it makes for a great breakfast. the only problem I have is if you add to much water, I always add just a little less than recommended and then add more if its needed. (watery burritos are not good)

Yummy Breakfast!

I actually had this for breakfast with Sampsonite (first review)while we were backpacking. It was awesome. We cooked up the first bag and it made about one burrito each. It was really good, so we cooked up the second bag. I was totally stuffed, we even had leftovers for the dog (granted, it's a small dog). And the taco bell sauce is really good with it -- adds that extra little kick. I also added a little garlic powder, salt, and pepper on the second batch from my little spice container before cooking to just flavor it up a little more. Mucho better.

Good and Filling

This is certainly not as good as my home-made breakfast scramble that i do in a dutch oven at base camp...but fantastic for what it is. When we need to go light, this is a great choice. I eat a lot, but this stuff is very filling...my son and I can share one pack of it if we use tortillas to make breakfast burritos and we are adequately full until lunch. I was very surprised and pleased by this product.

A good travel meal for those with Celiac

I have Celiac, so safe dining while traveling can be extremely challenging. I pack a few of these on every trip so that I always have an option for a hot meal, and doing so has come in handy on several occasions. The taste is pretty decent (a lot better than eating nothing) so I've been happy to have them around. My biggest gripe is that this meal (and all Mountain House freeze dried packs) are absolutely LOADED with sodium. If you've been hiking all day, I can understand why you'd want that much sodium in a meal. But it would be nice to have a few lower-sodium options for those of us who eat these for medical reasons.
