Comments about CamelBak Trail Blazer Hydration Pack - 70 fl. oz. - '09 Closeout:
I've had this pack for well over a year and I use it almost every day.
I chose it because of it's high quality materials and construction (obvious as soon as you pick it up), the large capacity Camelbak reservoir with it's lifetime warranty, and it's color and cool appearance. I hike/ bike/ jog in the desert mountains in So Cal, so it's sandy color blends in well. Garish, unnatural colors have no place in the wilderness.
Since it gets caked in perspiration and dust, I throw it in the washing machine every month or so, then air dry it. It comes out looking as-new.
Zippers, seams, pockets, etc are all top grade. This pack was built to be a long lasting, high quality tool, not cheap throw away junk.
It has a small, fleece lined pocket on the top for sunglasses, and the smaller front pocket has a velcro closed mini-pocket, pen sleeves and a clip for your keys. Keys, wallet, GPS, pocket knife, etc, all go in there. The main compartment is large enough to carry anything you'll need for a full day hike.
My dog shares my hikes with me, I carry all of her stuff in there- leash, water dish, waste bags, etc.
To fill her water dish during the hike, I just sit or kneel on the pack to pressurize the reservoir then squeeze the mouthpiece to open it- water squirts out into the dish.
I also jog with this pack, though it's a bit big for that- it does have a thin waist belt to hold it against your hips and sternum strap to tighten it against your chest, but it still flops around somewhat.
The picture is current, recently washed. You can see that it is still in new condition, after lots of world travel as my carry-on and daily workouts in the mountains.
A general complaint that I have, is that filling the reservoir requires unzipping it's pocket, unhooking it and pulling it out of the bag to get it under the faucet. Kind of a klugy design. I see that Camelbak now sells a quick connect adapter that allows you to fill the bladder through the drink hose. That should come with every pack, not be sold as an add-on.
Of note, I think this is sized for people 5'10" and under. I'm 5'11" and it's almost too small for my frame.
Overall, an excellent product.
