Comments about CamelBak Alpine Explorer Hydration Pack - 100 fl. oz. - '09 Closeout:
I own 4 or 5 hydration packs, but this is the first one I really love. I've only had it for a week or so, but have used it almost every day, hiking and around camp.
The reservoir, tubing and valve seem great. Time will tell about the durability, but so far they seal well, and having the reservoir in a separate pack section is much better than having to stuff a soggy reservoir in amongst your lunch or laptop.
As for storage, this is where this pack shines. As a scout leader, I need to carry lots of stuff: first aid gear, guidebooks, program materials, in addition to my personal gear. This pack holds it all. I like the hip pocket for snacks, and the center, expandable section for rain gear, or extra clothes.
When filled with water and gear, the pack still rides comfortably, although most of the weight (at least on my 6'3" frame) rides on the shoulders, the waist belt and compression straps keep things from shifting.
If you're looking for space and a large hydration system, this is a great choice.
