I use this bottle everyday for my water intake. It is the perfect size and the flip top is easy to open. True it isn't great inside a backpack or purse, however it attaches to the outside through the loop (tried and true) and because it is easy to use, drinking water is a snap throughout the day. I have the smaller size as well. They both work well for me and I love the top. Haven't found one that works better. Leaking has not been a problem in the past few months of my using the bottle.

Finally, I found a water bottle that doesn't leak, is easy to drink from while walking, or on the elliptical trainer, and doesn't cause my water to taste funny. The flip top is easy to drink from although it does prevent me from guzzling when I'm really thirsty. Neither the flip top or the screw on cap have leaked in my gym bag or while I'm drinking from the bottle. Only downside is that cold beverages make the bottle very cold and uncomfortable to grip at first. A rubber grip around the middle of the bottle would be a nice addition.

I will admit that I haven't "field-tested" this bottle - it was just delivered today. It is everything I had hoped it would be..., except for the Flip-Top lid closure. It doesn't snap shut or latch in any way. There is a small rubber stopper molded inside the cap, that fits inside the drinking spout. It only goes into the spout a very short distance, and it is only that friction that holds the lid closed. There is a raised ridge on the inside of the cap, that looks like it should match up with a groove on the front side of the spout, but doesn't. According to an REI customer service rep I chatted online with, the lid is held by friction only. Another reviewer said that it "easily flips opens with just a nudge of your thumb". I'm afraid that a gentle nudge from something else in my pack would do the same.

I thought this would be the water bottles of water bottles for my son to take to school. Second day of school, the fliptop broke off just bumping into someone. Bottle is now useless. End of story. Huge disappointment. REI, please make a sturdy replacement cap for this bottle.

I was very excited to have my new water bottle. On our first trip out, we passed the water between my husband and myself. The flip top easily flipped off, and I was unable to find it. It should be more securely fastened to the bottle. Now it is useless and will probably take up space in the landfill.

No problems with the cap sealing or detaching. The drinking opening is just a little small, and the painted finish could be a bit more durable. Read the reviews before going to the store and choosing this bottle, having studied quite a few in the past several months, and concluding that none are perfect. I found this bottle to perform very well in the past few weeks. It travels with me daily in an external daypack pocket, goes to the gym in a bag with a zipper pocket, and has been on one camping trip with temperatures from 50 to 30 where it was in the daypack or caribinered to a small bag. I drain it 3-4 times per day. Having experienced the bite valve style too, I prefer pouring to the straw or valve bottles.

I just bought this on Friday and went hiking with it on Sunday. The pop top came off three times - it seems inevitable now that the top will come off and I will not be able to find it. As others have pointed out - once that happens the bottle is useless because you can't close it. Wish I had gotten the conventional screw top instead...

Having non-leeching stainless steel was my number one concern for a water bottle. This bottle works very well for that purpose. It is fairly durable, but like any water bottle it has it's issus that you can work around.
The only time the bottle leaked (even with a year of daily uses and drops) was when I left it in my car and the interior reached over 120 degrees and the flip cover was secured. According to the laws of Physics, this will happen.
Yes, it was easy for the flip top to "break off". However, it could be expected and as long as you do not throw the water bottle with the top open (who does that anyways?) it was not an issue for me.
Occasionally when I dropped the full water bottle onto a hard surface, the top would flip open and water did spill.
What finally did my water bottle in was taking a dive from my gym locker (after numerous times) and hitting the plastic portion of the bottle (not the lid) at just the right angle with just enough force (it was full) that caused the plastic to break apart causing a permanent crack in the threads.
I just wish the threads on the bottle was stainless steel like the rest of the bottle. I believe this would leave it more durable. I will not complain, though. This is the longest I have used a water bottle without major structural issues. I will buy another one to replace it!

I use this bottle everyday. Fill it up multiple times perday. I have taken it on beach , hiking, and plane trips.

I must have dropped it 50 times, and its working like new. A couple of dings and scratches on it, but nothing bad at all.

The lid does come off if you push it at the right angle, but it didnt stop me from getting two.

Good buy.

I didn't love that the flip top doesn't close tightly - you can't place this on its side with liquid in it or everything gets wet. But the flip top also pops off of the lid easily - can't tell you how many times I've put it back on. Then today it popped off as I was going somewhere and it's lost - so much for a [$] water bottle! Thought REI would come up with something better.
