Comments about Continental Mountain King Tire - 26 x 2.4:
I had been riding the Continental Explorer pro 2.1, Vertical Pro 2.3 tires for sometime and were very happy with them. I've also been riding the Kenda blue groove/nevegal combo and been pleased.
I tried the mountain king as it was a little bigger than the vertical pro and had puncture protection. However I was very disappointed in the tire on the trail in fact two rides were enough for me to take it off and put my Kenda's back on.
I think the issue is the side knobs are too soft, so when you corner the bike the front tire tends to slide very easily as the side knobs fold over and the tire looses traction. It was more scary than riding some 1.9-2.1 cross country tires I've rode on the same dry/hardpack NV trails.
They seemed okay in the back, but since the front tended to slide so easy I couldn't really push the rear at all. Climbing traction seemed okay.
The only plus I could see for these tires is perhaps the soft knobs would help in wet soft slippery conditions which we don't really get here. Otherwise they were the scariest tire on our trails I've ridden in a long time.

Comments about Continental Mountain King Tire - 26 x 2.4:
I use the SuperSonic version as the front tire on my XC race bike (2006 Cannondal Rush 600). The cornering confidence isn't very high until you learn to just trust that this tire will stick, and it does. I've washed out dozens of times in sand and mud in high speed corners but never gone down, so I think that makes it a forgiving tire. It's fairly light for the size and really helps me hold my line over the slick roots that are the predominate feature on many courses.
