Comments about REI Sport Top Stainless-Steel Water Bottle - 25 fl. oz.:
I purchased this REI water bottle about 4 months ago and am extremely disappointed in it.
1. It leaks. I don't know how many times I've hopped into my car and tossed the water bottle on the passenger seat only to discover that it leaked on the seat. Even twisted down on the cap doesn't stop the leaking. It leaks in the valve system
2. I have left the plastic straw attached to the cap. When I suck on the mouth piece the pressure release valve sounds like a person with emphysema. The wheezing sound is loud and embarrassing.
3. When traveling from a low elevation to high one – Seattle to Mt Rainier or mountain passes, and the mouth piece cover is pushed back, the pressure difference sends a stream of about a tablespoon of water out; once all down the front of my shirt another time into the crouch. Real fun. Now I point the loaded gun to the side when flipping the cover back so it shoots water at the person next to me.
Bad design; a one star rating. Don't buy. Taking the bottle back to REI

Similar to other reviewers, I ended up having to return this after it failed me multiple times. Several times the lid leaked resulting in wet textbooks and clothing. The silicon mouthpiece also gets dirty very quickly (halfway through the day), to the point it made me hesitant to put my mouth on it. Yes, it is also embarassingly loud to drink from in public.. The worst part though is pressure difference causing water to squirt out of the top when you open it. 2 days in a row I filled it with cold water in the morning, left it in my car during a 1hr class (during South Texas winter), returned to my car to drive home and had it geyser over a half of a cup of water onto my chest/lap while driving, almost causing me to wreck the first time. The water inside hadn't even warmed up that much (was still cool to drink). I returned it and got a Liberty Bottleworks bottle, which is narrow enough to fit in my Osprey Talon 22 side pouch, and only requires 1/8 of a turn to get the lid off. Much happier now!

This bottle has a great idea with the flip-top but fails in execution. When a pressure differential occurs from temperature changes and the top is flipped open fluid squirts out, sometimes 12 or more inches. The bottle leaks as well, nothing like opening you pack to see everything soaking wet from a leaking bottle.
I will be returning this bottle the next time I go to REI.
I DO NOT recommend this bottle to anyone for any use!

Comments about REI Sport Top Stainless-Steel Water Bottle - 25 fl. oz.:
I bought this bottle at REI yesterday so that I can use the water feature on my fridge instead of having to buy plastic water bottles. I filled up the bottle, put it in the mesh side-holder of my backpack, and layed my backpack down on the passenger seat of my car. The bottle leaked. Not a huge gush of water, but enough to make me return it. Also (whether you choose to have the straw attached or not), you need to suck on the blue spout to get water out of this bottle. You can't just tilt and pour from the spout.

Those that have experienced leakage don't know how to use the bottle, as I was part of this crowd until I messed around with the little round plastic dealy in front of the mouthpiece. Basically to get rid of the sucking noise sound you press down on the clear plastic piece to enable an additional airhole and thus eliminate the noise. To prevent leakage however you have to close that hole back up. Since I started doing this, no noise, no leakage, problem solved.

The silicon mouth piece continues to flake off after cleanings, and when using the slip cover lid. I think the lid is srcaping the mouth piece, not sure if it is okay to ingest. It has yet to leak on me or spout water. I would spend your money on something else.

We like these water bottles because of the straw and the lid closes over the top to keep it clean. We haven't had them leak and we bought two of them.
Looking to buy 2 more to have one for everyone in our family.
