Comments about Patagonia Downtown Loft Down Parka - Women's:
When I first tried on this coat, I thought, "Wow, this is a lot of coat. Maybe too much." But I was headed to Northern Europe in January, so I kept it. Boy, am I glad I did. Stockholm hit zero degrees (F) on a day I was touring through Old Town on foot. Underneath the coat, I wore SmartWool top and bottom long underwear, an insulated skirt, a fleece vest and knee boots. I was warm. And the coat was lightweight, so I did not feel weighted down. On the nine-hour plane ride, I stuffed the coat into a pillowcase and used it as a lovely, down pillow. In a hotel, I used it as a down comforter (the hotel comforter was way too warm).
I quickly got the hang of the double zipper and snaps. At first, I thought the snaps were wimpy, but I came to appreciate them. They work great and they give the coat a nice, sleek appearance. I'm back home in the chilly Northwest, and I save the coat for really cold days. It's especially nice in the car as I drive to work at 7 am. It keeps my legs warm until the heater kicks in. For sizing: I'm 5-2, 105 lbs. The XS fits fine. The arms are a little long and I thought about having them shortened. But on the zero-degree day in Stockholm, I was glad for the longer sleeves which kept my hands warm. All in all, I grew to adore this coat.

Bought this coat to wear to the Inauguration. The coat looks great. Very warm. Feels a little snug in the chest compared to my North Face Down coat, but not too snug. Can still get a sweatshirt/sweater layered under the coat. Like the overall long length and long arm length.
The hood is great. I followed the advice of another reviewer and when using the hood, button the top button of the coat. The hood then stays in place and looks good. Glad it doesn't have ties hanging down from it to detract from the overall appearance of the coat. Can be worn with anything.

This parka is both stylish and flattering without sacrificing warmth and performance. I tried on several parkas and found them to be hefty, bulky, or simply put - they made me look like the Michelin Man.
The hood is incredible and buttons across the zipper to hold it in place and give you the sense of being in a mummy sleeping bag without limiting visibility.
The sleeves were long enough for even my 5'10" frame.
It is sometimes difficult to zip up the jacket as the zipper starts so far down but once you get it zipped, you'll be warm forever!
A wonderful parka for Montana Winters and the chill of the Great Lakes of NY.

Love love love this coat! This year the winter is supposed to be especially wicked, so a solid puffy coat is an absolute must. It's warm, super soft, extremely light weight, stops the wind and keeps me super toasty warm. I'm in Chicago and take the train a lot and need something that will keep me warm waiting on the platform and while I'm walking - this is the perfect answer. And, I have to say, I look amazing in the coat - yes, it's puffy, but in a tailored, styled way. A big bonus for me is the length - it goes perfectly over a winter dress and boots during the week. And it's casual enough to go with jeans and a sweater on the weekend. I also travel a bit, so the fact it is lightweight and can be scrunched into a suitcase adds to the long list of pros. In short, it's perfect. All I have to say is GET YOURS NOW!!!

This is a beautiful jacket, and it feels really good on. Just imagine being wrapped in your favorite lightweight down sleeping bag. It's lightweight and very soft. I live in high altitude, with a very dry cold winter climate, and I am so excited to wear it this winter. I have only worn it to walk my dog, but in 35 degree weather (while moving) it was almost too warm until I unzipped the bottom to vent it a bit. The double zipper is nice to give more room for larger steps (long legs), but very hard to get started (the only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars). Maybe with some practice starting the zipper will get easier. Other reviewers were unhappy with the hood, but it is one of my favorite things about the jacket. As long as you button the top button it stays up. My only other complaint is the plastic buttons. They feel as if they are going to rip the jacket when trying to unbutton them.
Overall, I LOVE IT!

I just went out and walked the dog for 1 mile wearing this coat to re-test the hood issue. Today the high was 11 degrees F; wind chill "calm". A little over halfway, I started appreciating the a draft about my ankles, otherwise I was nice & toasty. I also wore hat & a scarf--the scarf for holding the hood up not for warmth. Maybe with a hat or earmuffs under the hood, the scarf is better at holding up the hood as I did not have any problem keeping the hood up; although the other day when I got gas & it was windy & I had hat but no scarf I had to hold the hood with my hand to keep it up.
The pockets are a bit small but they are fleecy and warm & space enough for keys, dog poo bags, iPhone; the pockets zip closed to become invisible. Sometimes if I take 2-3 bags wadded up it messes up the silhouette but it does not interfere with functioning. I don't really use inside pockets. Other down coats I have had problems with the zipper sticking or catching the fabric but I have never had a problem with this coat. Full length 2way zipper (or snaps) is useful. When I got the coat out this year, the bust seemed a little tight but I do not notice that any more.
I wore this coat all last winter and this year too. I get compliments on it all the time. If they came out with this exact same coat but with cinch-cords, I would be the first to buy it again. If they added water resistant fabric, or a slightly thicker fabric (I did see a piece of down sneaking out today) I don't think I would ever need to buy another winter coat. It is machine washable and dryable but I have not yet tested that. I have tried 2 other brands of long, down coats like this and this one wears far & above the others, truly in a different class.

I did alot of research before purchasing this coat. I went with it for the high quality of down, and for the flattering cut. Sure enough, when I recieved it in the mail, I was thrilled! But I wasn't nearly as happy as when I took it to NYC for a pre-Christmas trip: While everyone else was freezing cold, I was perfectly warm and comfortable! Yes, it'd be nice if there were some kind of drawstring to cynch in the hood more tightly, but it's very cute the way it is, and still plenty warm - unless you are in a blizzard. I love it's slimming fit, and I wear it everyday, with just about everything. It was definitely worth the money as a winter staple!

Comments about Patagonia Downtown Loft Down Parka - Women's:
For the price, I expected perfection. While the length is great (new Pata longer coat, I am 5'6), the hood surprisingly does not have any means of closing, attachment, cord, or else. As a result, when windy and snowy (as these days), even a scarf can't properly help the hood to stay on and tight. Similar remark about sleeves -- not wind and snow friendly. Inner pocket not functional either (women do not always carry bags and all the pockets are kind of small.
A shame. Elegant and warm. Comfortable.
