Comments about REI Hoodoo 3 Tent - '09 Special Buy:
The Hoodoo 3 is the best tent I've ever owned! I decided to upgrade from a Eureka 2 person that I've used for several years of motorcycle camping. The Eureka served it's purpose well, but I wanted something bigger, sturdier and more waterproof. The Hoodoo 3 was it. Very roomy for myself and all my gear. First use was in Daytona Beach for Bike Week 2010. Then on to Key West. Pitched it in about a 20 mph wind coming off the Gulf that remained for the whole stay. The Hoodoo never waivered and held tight in the wind. A true pleasure to sleep in.

Comments about REI Hoodoo 3 Tent - '09 Special Buy:
I've had this tent for two years and spent about 24 nights in it. Very waterproof and comfortable. Easy to pack on my motorcycle.
Only complaints I have is entrys are mesh only. Dust can blow in during high winds. Zippers are to light weight. Takes two hands to open or close.

Comments about REI Hoodoo 3 Tent - '09 Special Buy:
I purchased this tent last summer. I have not been disappointed. The tent sets up very quickly and is very strong and rigid. They fly is very tight and never comes in contact with the tent body. They guy lines are the best. REI's guy line tensioners are very easy and effective. I have not had any condensation build up at all. Even in 3 days of solid Oregon Coast Rain. One reviewer complained about the poles not fitting in their packs....I have a 42l pack and they fit. They also fit in both my daughters 30l packs. The angle pieces are a little awkward but have not caused any problems in transport. Like most tents, its best to practices set up before you are out in the wild. The fit and finish of this tent is very good. I am sad to see this tent discontinued.

Comments about REI Hoodoo 3 Tent - '09 Special Buy:
My husband and bought this tent for backpacking in the Colorado mountains with our two dogs. It accomodates all 4 of us very well. I love the height inside as I don't have to lie on my back to get dressed. We have thoroughly enjoyed our trips with the tent. The only complaint we have is that the door are entirely mesh. With only mesh doors, any kind of windy conditions leaves the tent pretty drafty. It isn't a problem in warmer weather, but we sometimes camp in 20 degree nights. We have solved this problem by cutting a footprint to fit the doors. We are attaching this footprint with stick on velcro strips. It has created fairly wind-proof doors for those cooler nights and added only minimal weight to our packs. The footprint doors also double as an entry/exit mat when not in use. Great tent otherwise and I would recommend it to anyone!

Comments about REI Hoodoo 3 Tent - '09 Special Buy:
Loved the tent design. Nice and roomy construction. The simple retangular floor shape yielded a simple, sturdy, roomy tent. I liked the ample door and fly on one end and the smaller "bonus" door and vestabule on the other end.
I wanted a tent for the Boundary Waters and canoe camping. I am upgrading from my trusty 16 yr old tent who still works well, but was looking for a lighter tent and I wanted the old one to retire on top (rather than having a rainy trip force me to retire it).
The ONLY downers for me was 1) The tent was just too short for my 6'3" body. Head and feet were too close to the ends, basically touching. Now with the fly coverage on both, that' probably not a deal breaker in terms of wicking moisture onto your sleeping bag. However, I also purchased the TAJ 3 at the same time and it's added length won me over.
So, in the end, GREAT tent. Try it on for size for those of us who are taller.

Comments about REI Hoodoo 3 Tent - '09 Special Buy:
This tent has worked great for me, my husband, and our 95 pound lab/mastiff mix. We use this tent for backpacking. It is very roomy. I could imagine it would fit 3 people tight but comfortable. It was almost too much room for us and our pup. We got this tent b/c our dog is new to camping. And even though he looks big and tough, when it comes to sleeping he wants to sleep on something soft and warm. So we figured we needed room to set up a bed for him so he didn't end up on top of us! We could probably have fit 2 dogs and us quite comfortably.
This tent is pretty light given it's size. It takes less than 5 minutes to set up. Some people have said it's awkward to set up - I think this is may be true if you are setting it up by yourself b/c of the angle of the poles - although I'm sure it's possible. But with 2 people it is a cinch.
We haven't used the fly yet so I can't comment on it. But we did decide on this tent b/c of the large vestibule the fly creates. We set it up @ home w/the fly and it seemed easy enough. But haven't actually tested it out in the wilderness. I have a 40L pack - and the tent and poles fit just fine. Especially if you fold it in your pack instead of rolling it up.
The nice thing about this tent is that it is not a dome tent. So the straight sides make it a more comfortable place to hang out (e.g. in bad weather) ... because no matter where you are sitting your head won't be hitting the ceiling. This was important to my 6'5" husband who never fits in anything!
We also love that the top has mesh vents ... it allows us to watch the stars at night.
No complaints from these users. We would buy it all over again.
It is probably a bit excessive for 2 people unless you like lots of room.

Comments about REI Hoodoo 3 Tent - '09 Special Buy:
I bought this tent this winter. I have used it on two separate outings. Both of the outings were in frigid conditions. This tent is not advertised as a 4 season tent, but I like a challenge. Make sure you position your tent doors away from the wind if not wanted. I did not use the proper strategy on the first trip. The tent is great with plenty of room. Once the poles are erected the tent goes up in seconds. I also have the HooDoo3 footprint which I keep in my tent bag works great! I carry the tent strapped to the bottom of my backpack. Everything worked great. This is a nice tent.

Comments about REI Hoodoo 3 Tent - '09 Special Buy:
This tent is huge. 3 comfortable, 2 is a palace.
A bit awkward to set up. This thing is a contraption. Takedown as well.
Would not use in a hiking trip unless I planned on going with 3 people to spread the weight. Poles do not fit in smaller bags (I had a 40L and currently a 65L and would not fit either.) Heavy for size too.
Great for car camping and similar.

Comments about REI Hoodoo 3 Tent - '09 Special Buy:
I've been using the Hoodoo 3 for about 3 years for all of my spring/summer/fall adventures. I have to say that the large front door and enormous front vestibule make this the most livable tent I've ever owned. however it still remains light and packable enough for backpacking.
This tent also has great ventilation, absolutely no condensation problem.
I'm 6'2 and this tent fits me fine with my girlfriend and dog. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone taller than myself.
The only con as far as i'm concerned is that it's a bit heavy for the minimalists out there.
