Comments about REI Hoodoo 2 Tent - '09 Special Buy:

This is simply the best tent I have ever owned. Amazingly easy to set up, very roomy inside and vestibules are great. It is fairly light and absolutely weather proof, just a brilliant design! The only con I found is that if you set it up where the morning sun hits it, it can get very hot, very quick. You can avoid this by unzipping the net lining a little bit.

Comments about REI Hoodoo 2 Tent - '09 Special Buy:

I own several tents but when I saw this one on sale it seemed the perfect candidate to replace a 10 year old REI 2 person half dome. It definately is roomy and having vestibules either side is very useful. Put it up in the yard the first time to figure it all out. Was confused for a moment, then the light went off and it made sense. Now it takes just 2 or 3 minutes to put up. I like the fact you can put the fly up first if it's raining, then the tent once you have shelter. Makes a fine backpacking tent, but best carried on outside of backpack. Delighted with the tent, just wish the footprint was still available. Will probably construct something out of Tyvek instead.

Comments about REI Hoodoo 2 Tent - '09 Special Buy:

Luckily I paid attention to the reviews that said to assemble the tent for the first few times in a non-stressful environment. I did it on lawn and it still took me an hour to figure it all out. Second time was half that and the third time halved again. So now I really like it. Plenty long for me (6'3"). However, I was lucky to get a ground cloth made for this tent. The lady at the service counter called 3 or 4 stores and found just one. If having that accessory is important to you, I suggest you make sure you can get one before buying the tent. All in all a great product, though.

Has a lot of room for 1 and plenty of room for two. The fact that the tent opens on both sides is great, people and get in and out without bother the other person. Recommend setting up the tent at least once before using it. Was kind of weird at first, dont be scared the pools bend. It's a little heavy for a backpacking tent but worth it for the room. Used it in the Grand Canyon and it work great.

Comments about REI Hoodoo 2 Tent - '09 Special Buy:

I got this tent for an extremely low price. So low that I just saw it and thought, hey ill take a roll of the dice. I was pleasantly suprised when I first set up the tent. There is SOOO much room inside (im 6 ft and 230lb and you could fit two of me easily inside)and a lot of storage area built right into the walls of the tent. REI took a bunch of good ideas they saw from other tent makers and threw them all together for this tent (as im sure they do for all thier tents).

Also the quality seems good. I dont see any part of the contruction of this tent that I worry about.

The only thing i dont like is that it isnt a backpacking tent. It doesnt pack down small enough due to the length of the poles. You wouldnt want to have this strapped to your back for days due to the weight of the entire tent. Its not tooooo heavey and its not tooooo big when packed down but its moer than i would want to carry out for a few days.

A good tent for a good price. Just make sure that you do your research on all the same style tents before you buy any of them.

Comments about REI Hoodoo 2 Tent - '09 Special Buy:

The Hoodoo 2 is at its best when you can jump out of the car and set it up; when you want plenty of space or are sharing it with someone; when you aren't feeling fussy about assembling it. It's not great if you plan on hiking into a remote spot for one or more overnighters. I once carried it to a primitive campsite and the tent took up most of the space in my pack. It's too bulky and heavy for that sort of adventure. There's lots of room in the vestibules to protect your gear and foot room inside the tent if you are under 6'. I haven't had too much trouble with condensation; there are special vents in the fly that assist. It's a fashionable tent made with quality material. I'm definitely glad I bought it, but am planning on getting another tent that is much lighter to accompany me on longer forays into the woods.

Comments about REI Hoodoo 2 Tent - '09 Special Buy:

I'll start by saying I love this tent! It's probably a little heavy for long backpacking trips but I always figure the weight builds muscle. The vestibules are huge- I keep my mountain bike (take off the front tire) under one and my pack under the other with no problem. The doors open pretty much 360 degrees which makes getting in and out a snap even with gear on (or doing bike maintenance in a rain storm). It's a little snug for two people so you better like your companion, however the storage pockets all over the place make it feel way bigger than it is. Plus the walls are pretty much vertical so you get more headroom than expected in a backpacking tent. I've had no problems with condensation buildup and it doesn't drip an ounce in heavy rain. Other reviews have said that it is difficult to set up but if you know everything is color coordinated it's a snap. I can set it up solo in under 5 minutes with rain fly. It breathes well and the durability/quality is there. As I would any tent, I recommend the footprint just to preserve the life of the floor. Bottom line, this tent is perfect for the single person or couple who doesn't mind a little cuddling.

Comments about REI Hoodoo 2 Tent - '09 Special Buy:

This tent is amazing. With the footprint it a little heavy but the room it provides is well worth the extra 1-2lbs. I have used this tent numerous times since 2009. It has seen action in Wyoming, Cali, Oregon, Utah and Arizona. I Was in a 3-4hours downpour in the Tetons and stayed dry and warm all night. Trinity lake wilderness put it to the test with wind and it stay perfectly intact.

The features I really love about this is the GIANT mesh doors, large amount of mesh pockets inside, the 2 air vents above the doors, porthole window, and the vestibules. This tent is a must buy!

The minimalist shelter is great to cut 2-3lbs off your weight. Living in Oregon there are too many mosquitoes for me to stay sane at night so I just pack it all.
