Comments about REI Activestretch Pants - Men's:
I love ultra-light 'softshell' tops and bottoms as a base layer or second layer for hiking, climbing, trail-running, and backpacking. I only recently thought to look in the running section rather than the hiking section for such, and found these gems.
My previous 'lightweight' softshell pants weighted a pound, these babies weigh 1/2 pound. They are perfect for the above activities in 3 seasons. So light and packable you won't even notice them in your pack when you don't need to wear them.
The product spec says they are not water-proof, but I'll tell you what, I tested them by placing a hand in 1 pant leg and holding it under the kitchen faucet for 1 minute, and I didn't feel the slightest bit of moisture seeping through. And, I just shook the water off afterward and the fabric was completely dry. I would say these are more water resistant than any other softshell fabrics I've used.
I have to chuckle at the 2 star review given because these are not Powerstretch. Would you give a fleece jacket a bad review because it's not a down parka? Ha ha ha, no! There are Powerstretch pants available on the market, I'd suggest trying a pair and reviewing them. ;-)
These pants are awesomey!

Comments about REI Activestretch Pants - Men's:
These pants are okay. I would have given them 3 possibly 3.5 stars had I not bought the previous version of these pants, the Powerstretch, which I hope they will reintroduce next year. The Activstretch is thinner, looser, and basically falls short of the Powerstretch. They do not keep me as warm nor are they as soft. They do have the rear zipper pocket but still, not enough. It's not that it's a bad product, it's just that REI had something better, and now it's gone. Bring back the Powerstretch!!! I can live w/ being a little warm, it beats being too cold.

This is a nice, comfortable pair of pants for hiking or morning walks in cooler weather.
I live in NEPA and the mornings are stil quite crisp, but these pants keep me nice and warm during my morning hikes on the trail.
I don't know if I would use these for colder weather excursions without an additional underlayer though. Past few mornings have been between 35-40 degrees farenheit and I was comfortable with just the pants.
Overall, good product and we'll see if they hold-up to continued use.

Love 'em. Going to buy another pair. Love the flat seams, how lightweight the pants are, they're just great all around pants for running, hiking, riding a bike in the cold, etc. Great fit too!

I purchased these for the specific purpose of attending GORUCK Challenges during cold weather. I recently participated in the Austin GORUCK where the temperatures were in the 30's and it rained most of the time.
These pants did an excellent job of keeping my lower body warm without taking on additional weight from the rain. When it did finally stop raining they dried out quickly. Getting them on and off is easy due to the zippered lower legs.
My only negative comment is that they seem to have shrunk just a tad in length after washing them the first time. I don't mind since I'm only using them for GORUCKs and I was able to stretch them out a little.
I would buy another pair if these were ever damaged.

I've had these pants for several years and they hold up with no problems. These are my favorite workout pants during cool weather. Great to run in cool weather, I prefer running in tights in cold weather. Great for short bike rides, no padding. I throw them on over shorts after a run or workout. Great hiking pants. Great as sweats to pull off just before a run or ride. Zipper at bottom of the leg lets you put them on or pull them off over shoes.

These are awesome, I hope they never change them. I use these sport climbing in all sorts of weather. I've climbed in 30 degree weather with these and a pair of REI polartec lightweight bottoms and it is PERFECT. These have just enough stretch, are cut just right. I wear them in the weightroom and running and the reflective stripes on the zippers definitely stand out, serious style points and looks cool in photos when you are pushing up a wall. I am 6'2" 163lbs and usuall wear 31x34 jeans and the medium fits me perfectly!. Sort of expensive, but worth it.

I bought a pair of these for myself to use for running in the cold. I had no idea they would be the kind of pants I never wanted to take off. I mainly use them for cold weather running, although they havent been tested yet in under 40 F, but so far so good. They are tight and baggy in all the right places and the zipper in the back of the ankle instead of the side is a great change from my normal track pants. I just bought a pair of these for my Bro whos gonna be doing some running in South Korea, I will add an update and see how well they handle the real cold.

Great pants, quality material-love to wear them around, running, biking, etc in moderate weather. Poly blend is really where it is at. Downside, is that they come with a super short drawstring, so it always got sucked into the holes and was restrictive to use when it was available. Needed to replace to get the best out of this otherwise great athletic pant.

Bought these with the intention for cold weather running use. I live in the NC mountains, and have been running in the low 30s (F) at night. These are way too thick for these conditions. May work if you're running in the 10s (F) or less.
