Fun helmet for the kids
Good little helmet for kids. Bonus points that it's rated for bikes and climbs; kids don't notice the difference but it's nice to have one less additional piece of gear. Nice pack of stickers is included which helped them love the helmet. Really enjoy the size adjustment on the back. The helmet fits snug on multiple age kiddos unlike cheaper helmets which can never get the fit right. It keeps the helmet from falling over their eyes and makes me feel better as a dad. The adjustment is not super easy to tighten, especially on antsy kids. Even with that let down, very happy with this helmet.
Rad helmet for a young girl
The Picchu is a full featured climbing helmet for kids that can also double as a bike helmet. Thankfully we haven't had to test its ability to absorb a fall or hit, but the helmet is super adjustable and comfortable for a kid. The helmet has headlight tabs around, which will be awesome for summer 14ers.
Great helmet for beginning climbers
This helmet is perfect for kids. The size is adjustable enough to fit both my 6-year-old and my 9-year-old. It was too small for my 11-year-old. The colors are bright - which I love in outdoor gear. As a parent, it was easy to adjust while it was strapped on. The kids said that they didn't really notice it, which is what you want from a helmet - otherwise they won't want to wear it. We were climbing in fall weather, so I can't comment on the ventilation, but it seems as well ventilated as many adult helmets. If you're taking kids climbing outdoors, they'll need a helmet, and this is a great one.
Great do all helmet
Petzl has really done a great job with the Picchu helmet. It fits well with great adjustment, I will say that it just barely fits my 6 year old but it’s perfect for my 4 year old. I had the original version of the picchu and petzl has definitely made some great improvements. It has good ventilation though on warm days it can get a bit hot. From a safety aspect it’s second to none, the hard plastic combined with foam offers great protection from rocks and those Superman face plants over the handlebars. This is the best kids helmet I’ve tried for my kids.
Well made, perfect for right shaped head
Received this product for my 4 year old son. His head is larger than average and this helmet fit him well with some adjustments and moving the padding provided. It is as customizable as I think it can be, and when fitted, he could see and it didn't jiggle around. My only gripe is that the back of the helmet seems to end a bit straight, instead of curving around the back of the skull where it meets the neck. Maybe this is intentional but I guess I expected it to cover more of that back area than it does. Needless to say, it fits and it serves the purpose for which it was designed... kids action sports. I expect to get a season's use out of this as the kid wont stop growing, but at this price point I am satisfied with the product for when it fits and would gladly buy another one in a bigger size if Petzl offered that. I recommend.
Great fit, seems very safe
Got this helmet for a 6 year old who enjoys indoor wall climbing but the place that he goes often has loaner helmets that slide down over his eyes. This one was great because we could adjust it to his exact size is now his to bring back and forth and it does have about another inch to grow so I anticipate we will have this helmet for about the next year or more. He also tested it out skateboarding in our basement and while riding his bike around the yard. I asked him what was the best thing about the helmet and he really enjoyed the stickers that came in the box that he got to place on the helmet! But I think the helmet is that it seems very durable, safe, isn't wobbling all around and when he got off his bike and strew the helmet onto the paved driveway it did not even leave a scratch. The last helmet he had was very beat up from this type of treatment and one of those styrofoam type bike helmets the seems a lot more secure and I feel that he is much safer riding or climbing in it.
Kids size does not fit 7 year old
We didn’t really get to test much on this helmet, because the kids size did not fit my 7 year old. They may want to put an age range on it if they are going to say kids on a one size fits all product. It also seemed light on padding for a bike helmet, which is one of its suggested uses. It looked nice and might be good for rock climbing, but once again, this kids helmet did not fit my kid.
