Comments about KATADYN MYBOTTLE MICROFILTER:
For alpine climbs involving creek and river crossings, this handy piece of gear acts as an excellent on-the-go supplementary water filter.
During alpine climbs, I consume a lot of water and this small device allows me to quickly grab a liter or two of water while not depleting my hydration pack. It requires a bit of squeezing to produce a steady stream of water output but that's an inconvenience barely worth mentioning.
In summary, for multi-day outings, it will underserve your water filter needs unless you carry it for its intended purpose: an on-the-go secondary water filter.

Comments about KATADYN MYBOTTLE MICROFILTER:
I used this on a backpacking trip up Mt. Whitney. It works great if you only planning on drinking straight from the bottle. However, I needed to fill my bladder pack with water from the stream and it was very difficult to squeeze the water through the filter bottle into the bladder pack. It came out in a really tiny stream and I had to sit there with freezing hands squeezing as hard as I could for 15 minutes just to get 2/3 of the bladder filled. Way too much work!

Comments about KATADYN MYBOTTLE MICROFILTER:
I took this product on a 5-day backpacking trip in the Pennsylvania Wilds area. Prior to the trip I pre tested the product at home using tap water and filled up a 24 oz bottle. Not too much of a problem there. The stream of water is slow. However, on the 5-day trip I encountered major effort to obtain a stream of water from the bottle. It took so much effort that I resulted in placing the bottle on its side and using 200 pounds of weight (my body weight) to produce a stream of water from the bottle. My buddy was unable to squeeze out any water by hand and resulted to boiling water. By rearranging the different filters inside, I determined that the much needed cyst filter was the bottleneck.
Weeks later I retested the product back home and could get a steady stream of water by hand with perfectly balanced tap water.
I am not sure what was in the water out in the field that would cause the restriction.
Even at home it does take a lot of effort to produce 2 liters of clean water. After a long day of hiking, the last thing I want to do is spend even more energy purifying water.

Comments about KATADYN MYBOTTLE MICROFILTER:
This water filter/bottle did filter the water just fine, but you have to squeeze the bottle to force the water through the filter. Before you say "duh", the problem lies when you get to the last inch of water there is not enough pressure to force the water through the filter. Also your water source better be deep enough to submerge the bottle, or falling off a rock face so the bottle can be upright. If not you you'll get as much dirt as you do water and then the filter will clog quickly. Just spend the extra dough to get the MSR water filter. You will be happy and drinking clean water in no time at all. The MSR is WELL worth the money.
